April 13th 1998: Variety reports that Laura Esposito, a series regular on the Alphabet web's DreamWorks sitcom "Spin City," has joined the ensemble cast of Mandalay's horror sequel to "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Esposito will star opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt, who reprises her role from the first pic. April 1st 1998: Mekhi Phifer ("Soul Food") is joining Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Brandy Norwood in the cast for the sequel to the 1997 hit movie "I Know What You Did Last Summer." He will play Norwood's boyfriend in the picture, which is tentatively titled "I Still Know." February 9th 1998: Danny Cannon ("Judge Dredd") has been set to direct the sequel to the sleeper horror hit "I Know What You Did Last Summer," which is being scripted by Trey Callaway. The film rejoins Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. with the hook-handed fisherman who tormented them in the original. The film is expected to be released at Thanksgiving. The original grossed $75 million in the United States and is poised to crack $100 million worldwide. February 4th 1998: Various places reports that screenwriter Trey Callaway has been called in to fill Kevin Williamson's shoes, and that Hewitt and Prinze's characters are returning for the sequel. January 21st 1998: Rumour has it the follow-up will be entitled 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer'. Further gossip states that the production starts up in March or May, that Jennifer Love Hewitt is for sure in it, and that Freddy Prinze Jr. may also come back. [ Thanks to 'Coming Attractions' ] January 7th 1998: Kevin Williamson ("Scream," "IKWYDLS"), says he has turned down an offer to write a sequel to Summer and has questioned whether other teen screamers currently in the works have a chance of succeeding. Williamson told the New York Post on Sunday, "Scream was in some ways the rebirth and the death of the slasher film. It exposes all the rules and conventions of the genre, so you can't do it straight anymore. but if you follow the Scream route, it'll look like a blatant rip-off." RELEASE
