July 23rd 1998: Author of the original Psycho script, Joseph Stefano has been hired by Universal to 'polish and update' the script. The new script will update the dialogue between Norman Bates and his mother and the character of Sam (Viggo Mortensen) is more open and more sexual than in the original script. Other minor details such as the amount of money used to make a call from a payphone will also be updated. July 13th 1998: Robert Forster ("Jackie Brown") and Rita Wilson ("Jingle All the Way") have signed to play small roles in the re-make of "Psycho." Forster plays the psychologist who diagnoses Norman Bates' mental condition and Rita Wilson will play Anne Heche's co-worker. 26th May 1998: Viggo Mortensen ("G.I. Jane") has signed onboard as Marion's boyfriend Sam Loomis, and William H. Macy ("Fargo") as the police chief (Chambers.) May 19th 1998: Variety reports that Vince Vaughn ("The Lost World") now has signed to play Norman Bates in "Psycho," the remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic directed by Gus Van Sant and produced by Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer. That means the famed shower scene will feature Vaughn in the Anthony Perkins role and Anne Heche in the Janet Leigh role. May 7th 1998: Rumours indicate that Julianne Moore ("Boogie Nights") and Anne Heche ("Volcano") have committed to co-star in the picture for director Gus Van Zant, who will begin shooting this summer. Heche will supposedly take on the role made famous by Janet Leigh and which earlier had been offered to Nicole Kidman, who passed because of scheduling issues. Moore is understood to be playing Heche's sister. April 1st 1998: Cinescape Online reports that Gus van Sant ("Good Will Hunting") has set his sights on the most classic of all horror films. Van Sant is teaming with producer Brian Grazer to re-make Psycho, using the original script but updating the setting and casting what the trade calls "young, hip actors." The movie will be put on a fast-track and could be in the can within three months, according to the paper. RELEASE
