Movie News & Rumours:

July 18th 1999: Read our reviews of "EWS" here and here.

July 12th 1999: Variety reports further on the 'digital adjustments' made to EWS: In an extraordinary gesture immediately following the film's first screening for some Los Angeles critics Thursday, Harlan, who was Kubrick's brother-in-law, asked the group to stay for a few minutes while he explained and showed the alterations the MPAA had demanded before it would issue an R rating.

June 26th 1999: The official site has released two brand new commercials. Click below to check them out:

June 21st 1999: Below is some info on a new 'Eyes Wide Shut' poster with thanks to 'Leo.' There's also a possibly spoiler-filled review of 'EWS' available at this location.

While heading uptown on 6th Ave in a NYC cab yesterday, I spotted a new bus stop poster for "Eyes Wide Shut" This was not the poster that has been circulating on the web. The lettering was the same, but in differnt colors, and Tom and Nicole are at the bottom of the poster, not in a mirror frame. It this the Official Movie Poster? I haven't seen it anywhere on the web. If I get a chance I will go over and snap a shot of it with my Coolpix.

Eyes Wide Shut

May 29th 1999: What appears to be an "Eyes Wide Shut" advance poster, with thanks to Dark Horizons.

May 3rd 1999: Warner Bros. has announced that Stanley Kubrick's “Eyes Wide Shut” has indeed received an R-rating from the MPAA. Kubrick's team in London is at work on a trailer, sources said. Warners had been waiting to receive a rating before cutting one. While many had speculated that the film's various steamy scenes would warrant an NC-17, senior Warners execs had always insisted that it deserved an R, Variety reports.

April 22nd 1999: Norwegian magazine ViMenn is reporting that Emma Lou Merchant, who was an extra in the upcoming film, despite all the secrecy, recently revealed some info on her part: "Yes, I have a small role in EWS. During one scene many of us were dancing naked in front of Tom Cruise, but were warned to stair at him. It would make him too nervous, it was said." Emma Lou had to look none the less. "He looked at me, saw me looking at him, winked at me and smiled. We were shooting this scene for five and a half weeks. I bet Tom Cruise is just as familiar with my body as his wife - Nicole Kidman's!" There's another recent article about an 'occult scene' in the film available right here.

March 19th 1999: Trent from Countdown to EWS has managed to find the full ShoWest clip (84 seconds) with sound! I haven't had the time to download it yet, but it's probably NOT censored at all, so keep that in mind before watching it.

Quicktime Eyes Wide Shut - Full ShoWest Clip (2.4 MB)

March 12th 1999: Today a very pleasant surprise awaited in my mailbox, a 30 second (uncut) clip of the recent ShoWest teaser which have received a lot of buzz over the last couple of days. I contacted Trent and Lincoln over at Countdown, and they kindly agreed to help me out with the mirror list so more people can get to watch the clip. Please note that this clip includes some pretty explicit moments. A huge thanks goes to 'Thrill,' 'Trent,' 'Lincoln' and 'Ayaz' for all their help. Click below for the clip:

March 11th 1999: Variety reports that Warner Bros. recently released the first 90-second glimpse of the late Stanley Kubrick's film, "Eyes Wide Shut," featuring a nude Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in a series of steamy embraces. The 90-second trailer, released in Las Vegas at the Showest convention of theater owners, opens with a fully nude Kidman standing in front of a gilded mirror removing her earrings. Cruise, who is also nude, approaches from the side and gropes Kidman as she regards herself in the mirror. The brief scene was supposedly red hot, even by Hollywood standards. WB co-chairman Terry Semel reported that “This will clearly be a film that will be rated R, with a great story and performances that are truly electrifying.”

Stanley Kubrick March 8th 1999
Film director Stanley Kubrick (born July 26th, 1928 in New York City) died of natural causes at the age of 70 in his country home north of London this Sunday. Our deepest condolences goes to all his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by his many fans, but his work will live on forever.

March 5th 1999: Warner Bros. top brass, including studio chairmen Bob Daly and Terry Semel, got their first look Tuesday night at Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut" during a screening at the Time Warner building in New York. The print came hand-delivered via air messenger and was returned to Kubrick in London immediately after the screening. One source familiar with the movie about sexual obsession said the film, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, runs slightly longer than two hours and is expected to earn an R rating, THR reports.

September 28th 1998: Craig has gathered together a short synopsis of info regarding this upcoming Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman movie for those who are interested:

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's characters play married psychologist. They both have affairs with their clients and soon head to the streets of New York to explore the sexual underbelly. The crew for this film is very small, but the film has a budget of over $65 million. The film took 19 months to shoot. It is also reported that the film's director, Stanley Kubricks, took as much as 60 takes for many of the scenes. The new official release date is set for July 16th, 1999. Though the film is a summer release don't expect a big blockbuster, but rather a tacky art film.

August 31st 1998: Almost two years after it started shooting in October 1996, Warner Bros.' "Eyes Wide Shut" is lumbering toward a release date. There was speculation that the Stanley Kubrick picture, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, might come out as early as first quarter 1999, but that apparently will not be the case. Instead, Warners is anticipating a summer release. Still, that remains tentative. Sources said Warners won't make a firm decision until Kubrick locks in a cut - and the distinguished director is notorious for taking his time until he gets a film just right. Warner Bros. reps declined comment.

June 10th 1998: Variety reports that audiences anxious to take a peek at Stanley Kubrick's long-awaited "Eyes Wide Shut" will apparently have to wait a few months longer. Originally slated for a splashy Christmas release, the Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman starrer has been pushed back until Presidents' Day 1999.

April 25th 1998: In a statement released by director Stanley Kubrick, the filmmaker stated: "Because of schedule conflicts, Jennifer Jason Leigh, currently filming in Canada with David Cronenberg, will be unavailable to do a few days of shooting on the cameo scene she played with Tom Cruise in 'Eyes Wide Shut.' The role will now be played by Marie Richardson, one of Ingmar Bergman's leading actresses."

April 11th 1998: Dark Horizons reports that Stanley Kubrick was so unhappy with Jennifer Jason Leigh's performance, that he's called her back to re-shoot all her scenes. This probably means the film will be delayed till '99...

February 6th 1998: The longest film shoot in modern movie history has officially ended. Columnist Army Archerd reports Stanley Kubrick called it a wrap on "Eyes Wide Shut'' on January 31, almost 15 months after production began. Kubrick now begins post-production, and Warner Bros. brass can only hope he cuts faster than he shoots, because the studio is anticipating a holiday release for the Tom Cruise-Nicole Kidman picture.
