American Psycho

American Psycho: The official site has added the above advance poster for this thriller/drama, starring Christian Bale, Reese Witherspoon, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Mathis and Jared Leto. In related news, the film was recently stamped with an NC-17 by the MPAA. The rating stems from a single sex scene. Lions Gate is appealing the ruling.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: Steven Spielberg has not committed to direct Warner Bros.' "Harry Potter" after all, reps for the director recently said. He has yet to decide on his next directing project. Spielberg has the "Potter" script in his possession, and THR states that he has until the first week of February to make his decision.

Schwarzenegger/Stallone Project: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are searching for a project in which they can star together. The pairing would be the first time that the longtime friends and friendly competitors would share the screen. Making the deal for such a film would present some budget issues, but THR reports that if the right project could be found, "they would make it work."

Jason X: Newcomer James Isaac has been set to direct 'Jason X' for New Line Cinema. Written by Todd Farmer, "X" is set in 2455 on a long-abandoned Earth. When a professor and his students take a field trip to the planet, they discover a cryogenically frozen young woman and the hockey-masked Jason. The team takes the bodies back to their spaceship, and all hell breaks loose when Jason thaws and returns to his murderous ways in space. According to The Hollywood Reporter, production begins in March in Toronto.

Proof of Life: David Caruso ("NYPD Blue") has signed on to star opposite Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe in an untitled Taylor Hackford project (a k a "Proof of Life"). Scripted by Tony Gilroy and inspired by the Vanity Fair article "Adventures in the Ransom Trade," the feature tells the story of a hostage negotiator (Crowe) who falls in love with the wife (Ryan) of the man he is hired to save. Caruso will play Dino, Crowe's right-hand man in the mission to save Ryan's husband. According to The Hollywood Reporter, shooting is expected to begin in March in Ecuador.

Steven Spielberg

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: Steven Spielberg has agreed to direct and produce the Hollywood version of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," J. K. Rowling's successful tale of a schoolboy wizard. Last month, Spielberg was given an exclusive look at the first draft of the 'Harry Potter' script adaptation. He spent Christmas at his home in the Hamptons weighing up whether to direct A.I., Minority Report, or the Harry Potter film. The search is now on for a British schoolboy to play Harry Potter, although there are rumours that Spielberg favours a computer-animated version. The film is expected to cost between £80 million and £100 million. Thanks to The Times.

Unbreakable: A review of M. Night Shyamalan's October 8th, 1999 script. The film is scheduled to start shooting April 17th, and the cast so far includes Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and Julianne Moore. Minor spoilers. Thanks to Stax.

Unbreakable - Script Review (Positive)

Pearl Harbor: It's far from certain that the wartime picture will get made at Disney, given its $140 million-plus price tag and questions lingering about how the studio will lay off some of the risk. In the coming week, Disney chairman Michael Eisner and producer Jerry Bruckheimer will face off over the budget, with Walt Disney Studios chairman Peter Schneider and other Disney top brass weighing in. Jurassic Park 3: Below is an interview with director Joe Johnston, talking about the third 'Jurassic' film. Thanks to Steven Spielberg - DreamWorks SKG Fansite for the info!

The Danish newspaper "Politikken" did an interview with the director Joe Johnston when his film "October Sky" had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 99. In connecting with the Danish premiere of "October Sky" in January the newspaper printed the interview with Johnston on January the 7th. Johnston revealed some very interesting facts about Jurassic Park 3. (The following is a translation of the interview)

"I am very happy for this assignment...There will be a lot of special effects, but most importen for me, would be the story. The story is the key to a good movie. Steven Spielberg has given me "carthe blanche". He has said that I shall make my own movie, all though the plot in the movie is based on idea by Steven. He has strongly pointed out that I shouldn't try to copy him. Since our collaboration with the "Indiana Jones trilogy" we have talked about a joined project...I loved the two first movies and all though the audience will compare my movie with Steven Spielberg´s, it doesn't scare me at all. I cannot disclose the plot yet. We are so to speak still in the "development phase" (at that time in summer 1999), but there will be new persons and new dinosaurs. We want to create a feeling of something exceptional, as we know from the two first movies. A sort of a returning to the first one. Maybe there will be two characters we already know from the two first ones, but in the end rather unknown characters will appear."

...( Jurassic Park is considered as a milestone in special effects. Will the third one be the same?) " Since "Jurassic Park" and "Lost World" the evolution within FX has gone fast, and I will of course, use a lot of the new techniques that has been invented in the latest Star Wars Episode I. I see for me a lot of flying reptiles. I look forward to start filming. The budget is set to be 83 millions dollars."
