Pearl Harbor: Cuba Gooding Jr. ("What Dreams May Come") is in final negotiations to come aboard the Bruckheimer/Bay megabudgeted project "Pearl Harbor." The project has also garnered the interest of Kevin Costner. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Harbor' will go before the cameras in April or May and shoot for about six months. Mission Impossible 2: Limp Bizkit was recently confirmed to record the theme track for the forthcoming "Mission Impossible 2." In competition for the job with eight other acts, including Metallica, Limp Bizkit are said to have been the favourite of the film's star, Tom Cruise. The resulting track will be released in Europe, though not in America where executives fear that it would take the heat of the band's phenomenally successful album, 'Significant Other'. Thanks to dotmusic. Down and Under: David McNally ("Coyote Ugly") will direct the action comedy "Down and Under." Written by Scott Rosenberg and Steve Bing, it tells the story of two childhood friends, a highly regarded New York hairstylist and a would-be musician, who get caught up in a mob-related debt. Forced to travel to Australia where they are to deliver $100,000 to an Aussie counterpart, things go haywire when the money is lost to a wild kangaroo who becomes their target, THR reports. Adaptation: The creative force behind Being John Malkovich" - director Spike Jonze and scribe Charlie Kaufman - are set to make the drama "Adaptation." A summer start is planned. "Adaptation" is an adaptation of Susan Orlean's nonfiction novel "The Orchid Thief," which tells the story of a legal controversy surrounding a South Florida plant dealer and three Seminole Indians who had planned to clone rare orchids and then sell them for a small fortune to impassioned collectors. According to The Hollywood Reporter, no cast is yet attached to the project. The Affair of the Necklace: Hilary Swank ("Boys Dont Cry") is in final negotiations to star in The Affair of the Necklace for indie shingle Alcon Entertainment, with Charles Shyer ("Father of the Bride") attached to direct. Variety reports that the script was penned by John Sweet. Set in the late 18th century France, pic will feature Swank as Jeanne de la Motte-Valois, a woman who leaves her adopted home in search of her royal heritage. During her quest, Jeanne becomes enmeshed in a scandal involving Marie Antoinette, a spectacular diamond necklace, a Cardinal, her dishonest husband and her new lover. Through these associations, de la Motte-Valois not only incites the downfall of Marie Antoinette but also the overthrow of the French regime. Sweet November: Charlize Theron is in negotiations to star opposite Keanu Reeves in the remake of the 1968 drama "Sweet November." According to The Hollywood Reporter, "November," to be helmed by Pat O'Connor ("Circle of Friends"), tells the story of a work-obsessed man (Reeves) who comes into contact with a woman (Theron) who takes a new lover each month. After falling in love with her, he discovers she is dying of cancer. Blow: Ray Liotta ("Copland") and Monet Mazur (The Mod Squad) have been added to the cast of New Lines Blow, co-starring Johnny Depp. Variety reports that the project, based on Bruce Porters nonfiction 1970s novel, will be helmed by Ted Demme ("Beautiful Girls"). The Professionals: Bruce Feirstein ("The World Is Not Enough") will pen a script for a contemporized remake of the gritty 1966 Western Professionals. The original film was adapted and directed by Richard Brooks from a Frank ORourke novel. According to Variety, its a turn-of-the-(previous-)century Western in which mercenaries are hired by a wealthy ranch owner to track down one of their old gang who kidnapped the mans wife. The Knights of the Quest: Edward Furlong ("Detroit Rock City") is set to star in the $15-18 million indie film "The Knights of the Quest" for Italian director Pupi Avati. In the 11th century story, Furlong will play Simon of Clarendon, a young man who is sent to impart news of a sacred relic to a powerful French king. Unfortunately, when he finally delivers the message, the king has died and he is forced to seek out the relic on his own. According to The Hollywood Reporter, shooting begins March 27 in Scotland, Italy, France, Tunisia and Italy. Spider-Man: Entertainment Weekly reports that Leonardo DiCaprio ("The Beach"), Freddie Prinze Jr. ("Down to You"), and Jude Law ("The Talented Mr. Ripley") have all expressed interest and are all contenders. DiCaprio's rep Ken Sunshine responds, "He's obviously approached all the time about great-sounding ideas, but he's gotta see the script." Prinze's publicists couldn't be reached for comment. The Mexican: Gore Verbinski ("Mouse Hunt") is now at the helm, and DreamWorks is in talks to distribute 'The Mexican.' Julia Roberts had a meeting on the project and has sparked to the material. She's contemplating taking the lead in the $10 million film scripted by J.H. Wyman. Variety reports that 'Mexican' is an action-comedy centering on a sweet-natured criminal who's being pressured by his girlfriend to find another line of work. He struggles with the prospect of taking one final job: stealing the title character, an ancient pistol south of the border which is thought to be cursed. The Lord of the Rings: E! Online has scored an interview with Elijah Wood, who plays Frodo Baggins (the primary character) in director Peter Jackson's 'LOTR' saga. Click here to give it a read. Deuce's Wild: MGM has acquired North American rights to the late 1950s street gang drama "Deuce's Wild," which Scott Kalvert ("The Basketball Diaries") is set to direct. A mid-April start date is being planned for the project, with Fairuza Balk ("The Craft") in final negotiations to star. Offers are also out to Stephen Dorff ("Blade") and Josh Hartnett ("The Faculty") for other roles. "Wild" centers on a group of gangs in 1959 with a story line in the vein of "West Side Story," without the music. Balk would play the leader of an all-girl gang who falls in love with a member of a male gang. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is budgeted at under $10 million.
Flora Plum: Russell Crowe ("The Insider") has committed to star opposite Claire Danes in the Jodie Foster-directed drama "Flora Plum" for USA Films. Crowe would play the lead role of a circus "freak" in the Depression-era story of unrequited love. In the script penned by Steven Rodgers ("Hope Floats"), Crowe's character takes pity on a penniless waif (Danes) with whom he falls in love while helping her achieve fame. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a late summer or early fall start date is being eyed for "Plum." "The Sum of all Fears". Benjamin Button: Spike Jonze ("Being John Malkovich") is in final negotiations to direct "Benjamin Button," a drama based on a fabled short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. No start date has been set, but Jonze will now develop the project, whose initial draft was penned by Robin Swicord ("Little Women"). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fitzgerald's short story chronicles an old man who physically ages backward. At age 50, he falls in love with a 30-year-old woman and then must come to terms with the relationship as they literally grow in opposite directions.
Collateral Damage: As earlier reported, Arnold Schwarzenegger has now closed a deal to star in the thriller "Collateral Damage," about a man who goes after the terrorist who murdered his wife and child in a bombing. According to Variety, "Damage" is based on the spec script "Thou Shalt Not Kill." Sherlock Holmes and the Vengeance of Dracula: A review of Michael B. Valle's spec script. SHATVOD - Script Review (Positive) The Score: Marlon Brando is negotiating to co-star with Robert De Niro and Edward Norton in "The Score," a crime drama to be directed by Frank Oz ("Bowfinger"). Norton signed on last week to play a young man who convinces a master thief to pull off one last heist. Brando would play the veteran swindler's fence. According to Variety, filming begins in late April in Montreal. Goodfellas 2: The son and daughter of Goodfellas' Henry Hill, now adults living under new names, have sold their story to Warner Books in a publishing deal worth just under $1 million. They'll tell what it was like to be innocents whose lives were uprooted and torn apart several times because of the original misdeeds of their father and his indiscretion once he got lost in the witness protection program. A movie version of their story is already in development at Disney, with Angelo Pizzo (''Hoosiers'') writing the script.
