Macy ("Mystery Men") has been offered a role in the Joe Johnston-helmed "JP3." According to The Hollywood Reporter, details of the story are being kept under wraps, but it is known that Macy would play the role of a wealthy businessman. In other news, Variety reports that Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor (co-writers of last year's terrific "Election") have been tapped for a production polish on "JP3." Time Machine - Script Review (Mixed) The Sum of All Fears: During this past weekend's press junket in California for "What Lies Beneath," Harrison Ford was asked by several reporters if the news was true that he has departed from the Jack Ryan franchise. Blue Streak 2: Screenwriter Steven Carpenter has come aboard to develop and write a sequel to Columbia Pictures Martin Lawrence starrer "Blue Streak." Carpenter, who wrote the original feature, is tossing around sequel story ideas with the studio, producer Toby Jaffe and Lawrence, who is expected to reprise his role as a jewel thief posing as a cop. According to THR, "Streak 2" is being developed for a possible spring start. Lawrence is also expected to star in a sequel to "Bad Boys." John Q: Anne Heche is in final negotiations to join Denzel Washington in "John Q." Written by James Kearn, "John Q" revolves around a down-on-his-luck father (Washington) whose son needs a heart transplant. When insurance won't cover the operation, Washington's character decides to take the hospital's emergency room hostage until doctors agree to perform the surgery. Heche has been cast as a hospital administrator who enforces the regulations that prevent Washington's son from getting the operation he needs. Rounding out the cast are Kimberly Elise, who plays Washington's wife, and Robert Duvall as a police detective and hostage negotiator. According to The Hollywood Reporter, shooting is scheduled to begin next month.
Untitled: Tom Cruise is in advanced talks to reteam with Cameron Crowe ("Jerry Maguire") to star in an 'untitled love story' that Crowe will write and direct. Production is tentatively slated for a late fall start. After working with Crowe, Variety reports that Cruise will segue to the Steven Spielberg project "Minority Report," which will start shooting in the spring. Queen of the Damned: A review of director Michael Rymer's revised "Queen of.." draft, dated February 4th, 2000. Some spoilers. Thanks to 'Stax at IGN FilmForce.' Queen of the Damned - Script Review (Negative) El Phantasma: Commercial director Breck Eisner will make his feature film directorial debut on USA Films' action thriller "El Phantasma," THR states. Scripted by Craig Fernandez, "El Phantasma" is described as "Matrix"-like and set in the world of Aztec magical realism. The film is scheduled to go into production in November. Blair Witch 2: An advance poster for the horror sequel "Blair Witch 2 (Book of Shadows)." Thanks to Cinema Confidential. Reign of Fire: Director Rob Bowman ("The X-Files") will assume the reins of the post-apocalyptic action movie "Reign of Fire." According to Variety, production is planned to start in February or March. "Reign" pits an Anglo-American team against a brood of dragons that have re-established dominance over the earth. The Mexican: A review of J.H. Wyner's "The Mexican" script. This forthcoming film stars Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and James Gandolfini. Minor spoilers. Thanks to Chris. The Mexican - Script Review (Mixed) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: Sony Pictures Imageworks' Rob Legato has been selected as the visual effects supervisor for "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Legato, whose credits include "Titanic" for Digital Domain and "What Lies Beneath" for SPI, is in England setting up Potter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is expected to be a whopper of an FX show, with the evil Voldemort done in CGI and featuring a high-spirited game of flying broomsticks. The Husband I Bought: Charlize Theron ("The Cider House Rules") and Vincent Perez ("I Dreamed of Africa") are set to star in "The Husband I Bought," a feature film based on Ayn Rand's novella. Stephan Elliott ("The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert") will direct the project, which begins shooting Sept. 15 in London. According to THR, "Husband" is about a wealthy woman (Theron) with a perfect marriage to her architect husband (Perez). But when a building he designed collapses and kills several people, the architect goes on a downward spiral. When another woman steps into the picture to bring the architect back into the profession, his wife begins to lose him to her.
