Life, or Something Like It: Stockard Channing is in final negotiations to play a Barbara Walters-esque journalist in the upcoming romantic comedy "Life, or Something Like It," starring Angelina Jolie. The film centers on a discontented young reporter played by Jolie. When she interviews a homeless psychic for a fluff story on predicting football scores, he tells her that she has days left to live. Channing would play a veteran journo who is Jolie's idol. According to Variety, Stephen Herek will direct "Life," which begins lensing next week. One - Script Review (Negative) Bad Boys II: The writing team of Marianne and Cormac Wibberly ("The 6th Day") has been hired to rewrite "Bad Boys II" for Bruckheimer Films and Columbia Pictures. The sequel has been in development for years; it was originally planned to lens in 1996 and has since gone through several incarnations. No director or talent is attached, though the original film's stars Martin Lawrence and Will Smith have expressed continued interest. According to THR, the Wibberlys recently worked with Columbia on the upcoming "I Spy," to be produced by C-2 Pictures and directed by Betty Thomas with Eddie Murphy attached to star. White Oleander: Patrick Fugit ("Almost Famous") has joined director Peter Kosminsky's "White Oleander." Adapted from the best-selling Janet Fitch novel of the same name by "Beaches" screenwriter Mary Agnes Donohue, "White Oleander" begins shooting in mid-May. According to Variety, "Oleander" follows a young girl who essentially raises herself in foster homes after her mother is sent to prison for murder. Fugit would play Paul Trout, a fellow foster care urchin who, despite being born addicted to heroin of junkie parents, becomes the one person who the emotionally adrift girl can rely upon.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire: A new advance poster for Disney's animated adventure "Atlantis," directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise ("Beauty and the Beast"). Thanks to 'Johnny' and Buena Vista. Hearts in Atlantis: CHUD takes a look at William Goldman's adaptation of the Stephen King novel "Hearts in Atlantis." Catwoman: Variety reports that Ashley Judd ("Someone Like You") has agreed to play the felonious feline in "Catwoman," a film being developed at Warner Bros. Judd signed on after a meeting last week with studio executives. The Ring: DreamWorks Pictures has closed a deal for Ehren Kruger ("Arlington Road," "Scream 3") to adapt "The Ring," a Japanese suspenser the studio picked up for $1 million earlier this year. According to Variety, Gore Verbinski ("The Mexican") is said to be in talks to direct the film. In "The Ring," a journalist investigates an urban legend about a cursed videotape said to kill whoever sees it, seven days after exposure to its supernatural contents. Behind the Sun: Patricia Arquette will star as a stripper opposite Billy Bob Thornton in Propaganda Films/Lions Gate Films' thriller "Behind the Sun" for writer-director Robby Henson ("Pharaoh's Army"). The project is slated to begin shooting next month. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Sun" is about a police officer (Thornton) in a small town rocked by the death of a transsexual. The cop learns that some of the city's and state's highest-ranking officials might be involved in a cover-up of the incident. Arquette will play Scarlett, a New Orleans stripper who helps Thornton's character. John Morrissey ("American History X") is producing the project, with Alycia Allain co-producing.
