Deeds: Winona Ryder is in negotiations to star opposite Adam Sandler in Columbia Pictures/New Line Cinema's "Deeds" for director Steven Brill. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Deeds," written by Tim Herlihy and Brill, pays homage to Frank Capra's 1936 comedy "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town." The updated version will follow a small-town bumpkin named Deeds (Sandler) who moves to New York after he inherits a multibillion-dollar international business from his dead uncle. The man's small-town values begin to affect the jaded inhabitants of the Big Apple. Ryder would play Babe, a tabloid TV reporter in New York who goes undercover as a small-town girl with the intent of doing an expose on Deeds. Along the way, the two fall in love.

Pathfinder: Phoenix Pictures is set to remake "Pathfinder," the Oscar-nominated Norwegian action-suspenser from director Nils Gaup. Gaup is attached to direct the redo. Unlike his original "Pathfinder," which was set in 10th-century Lapland and based on an old Norse legend, Phoenix's remake will be set in a post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland. The action revolves around a young man whose family is slaughtered by a band of marauders. After leading an attack against them and being taken captive, the young man orchestrates their doom using an intricate ruse. Variety reports that "Pathfinder" is not slated to start production until strike deadlines for the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild pass late this spring.
