Insomnia: Al Pacino has committed to star in the ''Insomnia'' remake, which will be directed by Christopher Nolan ("Memento"). Variety reports that Pacino had been courted for weeks to play a police detective who [SPOILER] accidentally kills his partner during a murder investigation in a tiny Alaskan town. He then gets blackmailed by the killer into pinning that and other murders on an innocent person. [/SPOILER] "Insomnia'' will begin production April 9th in and around Vancouver with a budget near $50 million. Pearl Harbor: A look at the third "Pearl Harbor" poster. This Michael Bay-directed WWII action/drama stars Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale, Cuba Gooding Jr., Tom Sizemore, Jon Voight and Alec Baldwin. Thanks to CHUD. Battlestar Galactica: Director Bryan Singer has made a deal with Studios USA to reinvent the cult series "Battlestar Galactica" and executive produce it with Tom DeSanto, and he'll direct the pilot if it doesn't clash with the "X-Men 2" shooting schedule. The studio is finalizing deals with show runners, and will shop to networks shortly. Kurt Russell was recently cast in the lead role for this project, with Ron Shelton ("Bull Durham") directing. Minor spoilers. Thanks to Stax. The Plague Season - Script Review (Positive) Hotel: Director Mike Figgis has brought together an ensemble cast that includes Salma Hayek, Lucy Liu, David Schwimmer, Saffron Burrows, Burt Reynolds, Rhys Ifans and Max Beasley for his latest project, "Hotel." The "Time Code"-style feature, which uses the same real-time technique, is shooting on location at the Hungarian Palace Hotel in Venice, Italy. It is scheduled to wrap March 11. The 93-minute, split-screen film features an ensemble of more than 40 actors. Other actors on the "Hotel" guest list: Julian Sands, Ornella Muti, Valeria Golino, Chiara Mastroianni, Valentina Cervi, Danny Huston, Mia Maestro, George DiCenzo and Stefania Rocca. According to THR, the story follows various escapades going on inside a hotel: a film being shot, an entertainment news crew tracking the film's production, a mysterious surgical operation and a torture chamber in the hotel basement. All this is tied to a murder subplot.
Freddy Got Fingered: A poster for this Tom Green comedy, also starring Rip Torn, Connor Widdows, Marisa Coughlan, and Eddie Kaye Thomas. Thanks to Cinema Confidential. Minority Report: Samantha Morton ("Sweet and Lowdown") has landed the female lead in "Minority Report." Morton will star alongside Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell in the Steven Spielberg-directed sci-fi drama, which starts shooting this spring. In the futuristic "Minority Report," Cruise plays a detective hunted by a colleague (Farrell) and charged with a murder he hasn't yet committed. According to Variety, Morton's character connects with the fleeing detective. Chimera: Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis' Dark Castle Entertainment has paid low- against mid-six figures for Mark Hanlon's spec script "Chimera," marking the first spec acquired by the Warner Bros.-based specialty division. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story centers on a group of boat salvagers who find a lost 1953 passenger ship floating aimlessly in a remote region of the Bering Sea. After claiming the ship and attempting to tow it to land, mysterious things begin to happen aboard the derelict ship. Chambermaid: John Hughes is back on board to direct for Revolution Studios the romantic comedy "Chambermaid" from his own script with Hilary Swank ("Boys Don't Cry") attached to star. Shooting is not scheduled to start this quarter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hughes had previously planned to direct "Chambermaid" but opted out in the fall. Sandra Bullock had been in talks to star in the project, but Swank came aboard in January. Hughes has since become interested in directing the project, which he will also produce. "Chambermaid," a Cinderella-like tale set in Chicago, follows an American chambermaid who falls in love with a British gentleman.
