The Dead Crew: Former Fox studio boss Bill Mechanic's Pandemonium shingle has preemptively purchased "The Dead Crew," a sci-fi pitch from Ken and Jim Wheat (original writers of "Pitch Black"). According to Variety, the story centers on four people who die in a mysterious meteorite shower, only to discover that they are not in fact dead but immortal. They seek to know why they were saved and who saved them.. Death to Smoochy: A look at the script for "Death to Smoochy," written by Adam Resnick. This black comedy is currently filming, and stars Edward Norton, Robin Williams, Jon Stewart, Catherine Keener and Danny DeVito - who also directs. Some spoilers. Death to Smoochy - Script Review (Positive) Natasha Lyonne has signed on to reprise her role (as Jessica) in "American Pie 2" and join the cast of Miramax Films' time-travel romantic comedy "Kate & Leopold." Lyonne is scheduled to start shooting her role in "Pie 2" in Los Angeles next week for director J.B. Rogers before segueing to "Kate" in New York for director James Mangold. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lyonne will be featured opposite Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman in "Kate," the story of a man (Jackman) living in 1880s Manhattan who -- through a time-travel experiment gone awry -- is accidentally transported to present-day New York, where he falls in love with an executive (Ryan) and must choose between his two worlds. Lyonne plays Ryan's personal assistant, a cool and edgy young woman with youthful optimism.

American Outlaws: Morgan Creek Productions and Warner Bros. have moved the release date of their action-adventure flick "American Outlaws" from Friday, May 18th to Wednesday, April 11th. The Jacket - Script Review (Mixed/Negative) The Shipping News: Scott Glenn ("Vertical Limit") is in final negotiations to join the cast of Lasse Hallstrom's "The Shipping News,'" based on the Annie Proulx bestseller. According to Variety, Kevin Spacey, Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench recently climbed on board the pic, which is set to go before cameras in March. The Sum of All Fears: Morgan Freeman ("Nurse Betty") and Bridget Moynahan ("Coyote Ugly") are in negotiations to star opposite Ben Affleck in "The Sum of All Fears." Variety reports that James Cromwell, Alan Bates, Ron Rifkin and Ciaran Hinds are in negotiations to join the cast. The Paramount project is scheduled to start shooting Monday in Montreal. Phil Alden Robinson will direct. In the script, CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Affleck) is forced to avert a nuclear confrontation between Russia and the U.S. Freeman will play the role of Ryan's mentor, while Moynahan will essay Ryan's girlfriend. Cromwell portrays the president; Bates has been cast as the heavy and Hinds will play the Russian president.

Life, or Something Like It: Director Stephen Herek is in negotiations to helm the romantic comedy "Life, or Something Like It" starring Angelina Jolie for New Regency Pictures. Shooting is scheduled to start in early April. Written by John Scott Shepherd, with a rewrite by Dana Stevens, "Life" is about a female reporter whose life seems meaningless until she comes across a homeless prophet who tells her that she has only one week to live. According to THR, Joel Schumacher was previously attached to helm "Life," but decided instead to helm "Black Sheep" starring Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins. Dolan's Cadillac: Sylvester Stallone is set to star and Kevin Bacon is in negotiations to join him in Franchise Pictures' thriller "Dolan's Cadillac," based on a Stephen King novelette that Paula Wagner will produce through her C/W Prods. The project is scheduled to start production in May with writer-director Stacy Title ("The Last Supper") directing from her own adaptation. In "Cadillac," an innocent woman who witnesses a mob hit is murdered to protect a local boss (Stallone), and her husband (Bacon) exacts revenge. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bacon is also in negotiations to join the cast of the action-thriller "24 Hours" for director Luis Mandoki. Liev Schreiber has signed to star in back-to-back roles in "The Sum of All Fears" and the time-travel romantic comedy "Kate & Leopold." In "Fears," Schreiber will play a CIA operative in the superpower thriller opposite Ben Affleck, who plays the lead role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan. Phil Alden Robinson is slated to direct the Paramount project, which is based on Tom Clancy's novel. Shooting is scheduled to start Feb. 12 in Montreal. According to Variety, "Kate" follows the tale of a late-19th century duke who falls in love with a modern-day Gotham gal and must traverse time to be with her. Schreiber will play the ex-lover of Meg Ryan. Hugh Jackman ("X-Men") also stars. James Mangold ("Girl, Interrupted") will direct the Miramax project.
Monkeybone: Poster for the live-action/animated comedy "Monkeybone," directed by Henry Selick ("The Nightmare Before Christmas"). It stars Brendan Fraser, Bridget Fonda and Rose McGowan. Thanks to re2smpc. American Pie 2: Eugene Levy is set to reprise his role (as the father of Jason Biggs' character Jim) in "American Pie 2" for director J.B. Rogers. A Universal Pictures spokesman said deals are in place for the rest of the cast on the follow-up, with the exception of Natasha Lyonne, whose deal is expected to close shortly. Saving Silverman - Film Review (Mixed) Femme Fatale: Antonio Banderas will star in director Brian De Palma's $30 million-$35 million thriller "Femme Fatale," playing a paparazzo. The female lead is on the verge of being cast, following a four-month search by Paris-based producer Quinta. Shooting will begin March 12. According to Variety, the English-language film will be shot in Paris and Cannes - some of the action takes place during the film festival. "Femme Fatale" will mark De Palma's return to his early moviemaking style, said Marina Gefter, who is producing with Tarak Ben Ammar. "The atmosphere will be very stylish. Brian wants it to be a homage to the French film noir of the '40s," Gefter added.
