Shanghai Knight: Jackie Chan announced during the winter Television Critics Assn. press tour that his next project will be "Shanghai Knight," a follow-up to "Shanghai Noon." The project, which likely would go post-strike, will be produced by the team behind "Noon," Spyglass Entertainment's Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum. Buena Vista Distribution will release the project, which is on the development fast track. According to THR, there's no word yet if Owen Wilson will return. The Castle: James Gandolfini ("The Sopranos") will receive just more than $5 million to star opposite Robert Redford and Mark Ruffalo in DreamWorks' psychological drama "The Castle" for director Rod Lurie and producer Robert Lawrence. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is slated to begin shooting March 19 in Nashville. Written by David Scarpa and Graham Yost, "Castle" centers on a court-martialed three-star general who is sent to a military prison and unites the prison population to create an army dedicated to taking down a corrupt warden (Gandolfini). Marci X: Damon Wayans is in negotiations to star opposite Lisa Kudrow in Paramount Pictures' comedy "Marci X" for director Richard Benjamin and producer Scott Rudin. According to The Hollywood Reporter, production is scheduled to begin in March. Written by Paul Rudnick ("In & Out"), the film is about a spoiled Jewish princess (Kudrow) whose record label mogul father has a stress-induced heart attack because of a controversy surrounding a song put out by one of his labels' star rappers (Wayans). Taking matters into her own hands and to rescue her late father's plummeting stock, his daughter takes over the hard-core hip-hip label and attempts to reign in the rapper. Over time, the unlikely pair fall in love, learn important lessons about race relations and smooth things over with the public.
Hart's War: Cole Hauser ("Pitch Black") will reunite with "Tigerland" star Colin Farrell in the MGM drama "Hart's War." Variety reports that Bruce Willis and Farrell topline the film, which is helmed by Gregory Hoblit ("Frequency") and begins lensing in Prague this month. Evolution - Script Review (Mixed) Tron 2: Almost 20 years after the release of the original, the Walt Disney Co. is in the early stages of developing a sequel to its 1982 sci-fi cult classic "Tron." The original film, which starred Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner, is about a video game designer who enters into a computer and battles the games he helped create. The film's writer-director, Steven Lisberger, is working on a second draft of a script with writer Richard Jefferies and plans to once again direct. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot is said to follow an ambitious hacker who transports himself into cyberspace to pull off the ultimate hack. "Tron," which grossed $26.9 million domestically when it was released, is credited with setting the scene for a generation of high-tech sci-fi movies. It has gained a cult following over the years, with several web sites devoted to the film.
