Ali: Jada Pinkett Smith has joined the cast as Sonji Roi, Ali's first wife. Roi, a cocktail waitress and model, married Ali in 1964, shortly after they met. But her conflict with his extreme loyalty to the Nation Of Islam was blamed for the end of their marriage less than two years later. According to THR, Pinkett Smith will shoot her role in "Ali" prior to jetting to Australia in March to join the second and third installments of "The Matrix."

The Superconducting Supercollider of Sparkle Creek, Wisconsin: In a pre-emptive strike, the Walt Disney Co. has slapped down $2.5 million for Koepp and John Kamps' original script "The Superconducting Supercollider of Sparkle Creek, Wisconsin" for Koepp to direct. The project will be produced by Barry Sonnenfeld and Gavin Polone. Under terms of the deal, Koepp will receive an additional $750,000 plus what THR sources said is a sizable back end that includes a $1.25 million deferment. "Superconducting" is a science fiction comedy about a small-town sheriff and the physicist whose team of scientists has built a particle accelerator beneath her unsuspecting town.

The Hulk: Ang Lee ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") is coming aboard to direct Universal Pictures' "The Hulk." The project is being produced by Gale Anne Hurd and Marvel Studios president Avi Arad. THR sources said that it was "X-Men" co-writer David Hayter's draft of the script that clinched Lee's decision to direct the project. "The Hulk" is about a research scientist named Bruce Banner and his monstrous, green-skinned alter ego, the Hulk. Lee's version of the film will be set in Berkeley, Calif., with such plot points as the misunderstood Hulk being pursued by the military while attempting to ward off threatening evil forces.
