The Chronicles of Riddick: Vin Diesel told Sci Fi Wire that he's co-writing the "Pitch Black" sequel with director David Twohy. "We should have a script in the next few weeks or month," Diesel said in an interview. "It will be called The Chronicles of Riddick." He confirmed that the sequel would not deal with the same aliens as the original film. "It will not be another Pitch Black situation," Diesel said. "We're going to follow Riddick through this universe, more like a futuristic Conan, coupled with a Harrison-Ford attitude and Star Wars. It's going to be dope."

The Fraud Prince: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has picked up the modern fairy tale spec script "The Fraud Prince" from writers Dan Forman and Paul Foley for studio-based Adam Schroeder Prods. Described as "The Princess Bride" meets "Shrek," the script is about a young princess who kisses a frog, who in turn becomes the prince she is to wed. With a sneaking suspicion that there is something more to her future husband because his appearance on the royal pond seems too coincidental, the bride-to-be decides to go outside the kingdom to hire a private investigator to do a background search on the man. Along the way, the pair not only dig up information on her suitor, but they fall in love with each other.

Michael Caine

War of the Worlds: The principles of Pendragon Pictures are in negotiations with the representative of Sir Michael Caine, to lead the cast of the $42 mill "War of the Worlds," which will begin filming this fall. Pendragon has also approached representatives of Charlize Theron and Matthew McConaughey. The international cast will be anchored with British and American talent. Pendragon is also in the process of screen testing national and international news and media personalities as well as newcomers and semi-unknowns. View the full press release here.

Duplex: Miramax Films has signed Greg Mottola ("The Daytrippers") to direct Drew Barrymore and Ben Stiller in "Duplex," a black comedy that will begin production in the fall. According to Variety, Barrymore and Stiller will play a New York couple whose dream of moving into a coveted duplex apartment is within reach. They just have to kill the sweet little old lady occupying the space. Last fall, Miramax signed Larry Doyle (supervising producer of "The Simpsons") to write the screenplay.

Beverly Hills Cop IV: Former rock musician-turned-scribe Jason Richman has been tapped to write "Beverly Hills Cop IV" for producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Paramount Pictures. Variety reports that it's unclear when the next installment of the franchise will head into production, but Eddie Murphy has been attached to the series for at least four years. Richman has a two-picture deal with Jerry Bruckheimer Films and the Walt Disney Co. His first film is "Black Sheep," directed by Joel Schumacher and starring Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins. Studio greenlit the picture on the strength of his comic rewrite of the spy spoof. The second script is open.

Triple X: Rob Cohen is set to direct and Neal Moritz is in final negotiations to produce the urban spy thriller "Triple X" for Revolution Studios. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vin Diesel is circling the project, which would mark a reteaming of the director, producer and actor, who worked together on "The Fast and the Furious." Written by Rich Wilkes ("Airheads"), the project is described as centering on a tough extreme-sports player who is co-opted by the government to infiltrate a crime ring. The character is described as a James Bond-like hero with the personality of a rock star/chick magnet like Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst. Production is slated to begin by year's end.
