Those Who Walk in Darkness: Warner Bros. has bought screen rights to the upcoming John Ridley novel "Those Who Walk in Darkness," with Joel Silver aboard to produce. Ridley will adapt his novel for the screen. It will not be published until next year by Warner Books, but it ran in part as an animated series on the Urban Ent site. "Darkness" is an adventure about a rookie cop charged with hunting down superhuman mutants. Vendetta - Script Review (Mixed)
Personal Injuries: Dustin Hoffman will make his feature directorial debut for Disney, helming the legal thriller "Personal Injuries." He will also star in and produce the adaptation of the Scott Turow novel through his Punch Prods. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Turow's novel centers on an attorney who has been bribing judges to win favorable decisions. The attorney, Robbie Feaver (Hoffman), is pressured into assisting the FBI in a sting operation, in which he is paired with a sexy female FBI agent. look at Ivan Reitman's "Evolution." Evolution - Film Review (Mixed) Icemen: Steve Carr ("Next Friday") is in negotiations to develop and direct the WB comedy "Icemen" for producer Jon Davis. According to THR, "Icemen," which stands for "Invention Control and Elimination Group," is described as "Ghostbusters" set in a patent control office. It is about a secret government agency that tracks down and confiscates dangerous new inventions. Damnation Game: Warner Bros. is in negotiations to acquire "Damnation Game," a feature film based on the Clive Barker novel of the same name that is being produced by Phoenix Pictures. "Damnation," which is being adapted by John Heffernan, is about an imprisoned gambler and thief who is released from prison early thanks to a wealthy industrialist who enlists him to be his bodyguard. The inmate's new job proves difficult when he realizes that someone is trying to collect his employer's soul as a way of settling an old debt. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Barker is also producing the film.
Signs: Mark Ruffalo ("You Can Count on Me") is in negotiations to co-star with Mel Gibson in M. Night Shyamalan's upcoming thriller "Signs." The story involves the mysterious sudden appearance of crop circles at a family farm in Pennsylvania. According to Variety, Ruffalo recently wrapped the Rod Lurie-helmed "The Castle" in which he stars with Robert Redford. Evolution - Film Review (Mixed) Hoffman: Molly Parker ("The Center of the World") will star opposite John Cusack in "Hoffman," the directorial debut of writer Menno Meyjes ("The Color Purple"). Also joining the cast are Leelee Sobieski, Noah Taylor, Ulrich Tomsen and Paul Hipp. Penned by Meyjes and set in 1920s Munich, the film follows local gallery owner Hoffman (Cusack), who is befriended by a young Adolf Hitler (Taylor) as he returns from World War I. Variety reports that the producers expect to shoot the $11.5 million picture in Europe this fall. Henry's List of Wrongs: Director Stephen Herek is in negotiations to helm New Line's dramatic feature "Henry's List of Wrongs." There is no start date yet. The project, adapted by John Scott Shepard from his unpublished novel of the same name, reteams the director and writer, both of whom are in production on "Life or Something Like It." According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Wrongs" centers on a ruthless businessman who, coming to a crossroads in his life, enlists the help of a female graduate student to seek forgiveness from the people he wronged on his way to the top, including his family.
Basic: Director Lee Tamahori ("Along Came a Spider") has renewed talks to shoot a military thriller with the working title "Basic." The Phoenix Pictures drama centers around a DEA agent brought in to investigate the disappearance of a legendary Army ranger drill instructor and several cadets in a training exercise that might have resulted in multiple murders.
