Rosario Dawson ("Josie and the Pussycats") is in negotiations to star in Fox's comedy feature "The First $20 Million Is Always the Hardest" and Columbia Pictures' "Men in Black 2." Shooting on "$20 Million" is scheduled to start in mid-April with director Mick Jackson at the helm. According to THR, "MIB 2" is slated for a June production start. "$20 Million," based on Po Bronson's 1997 novel of the same name, revolves around a group of computer geeks who develop the ultimate network computer only to have their idea stolen by another inventor. Dawson would play Alisa, the female lead who is an art major and love interest to the film's male lead (Adam Garcia). Although the plot of "MIB 2" is being kept under wraps, it is known that Dawson would play the female lead of Rita, love interest to Smith's character.

Rene Russo

Showtime: Rene Russo ("The Thomas Crown Affair") will star with Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro in "Showtime," a Warner Bros. comedy being directed by Tom Dey. Russo will play a TV producer who pairs a no-nonsense cop with a showboating counterpart to star in a reality-based show. According to Variety, she will next be in theaters with director Barry Sonnenfeld's Disney summer release "Big Trouble."

Undercover Brother: Dave Chappelle ("Blue Streak") has joined the cast of Imagine Entertainment/Universal Pictures' live-action comedy feature "Undercover Brother" for helmer Malcolm Lee. The project is slated to begin shooting March 26. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Brother" is based on an animated comedy series created, written and produced by John Ridley on Urban Entertainment's web site. Ridley wrote the script and is executive producing the project, which follows a man (Eddie Griffin) who, though he appears harmless, secretly works for an all-black brotherhood in its never-ending battle against the white Establishment. Chappelle will play Conspiracy Brother, an intense secret agent who finds conspiracies in the most outlandish things.

77: Crime novelist James Ellroy will write his first original screenplay, the urban crime thriller "77," for producer Dick Wolf ("Law & Order"), Wolf Films' Tony Ganz and Paramount Pictures. The project is described as a complementary piece to Ellroy's "L.A. Confidential." According to THR, Ellroy's story will link two events from May 1974 -- the unsolved murder of Los Angeles police officer Mike Edwards and the nationally televised shootout in South Central Los Angeles between the LAPD and the Symbionese Liberation Army, as they exchanged more than 50,000 rounds of gunfire. The story will unfold through the eyes of a pair of police partners, one black and one white. Ellroy will start on the screenplay when he returns from a world tour to promote his latest book, "The Cold Six Thousand." He is also writing an updated version of the 1949 James Cagney gangster film "White Heat" for Village Roadshow Pictures and WB.
