Big Daddy The General's Daughter The Wild Wild West

Movie Posters: A pretty funny poster for the upcoming Adam Sandler comedy "Big Daddy." One for "The General's Daughter," a military thriller starring John Travolta, Madeleine Stowe and James Woods, directed by Simon West ("Con Air"). Also a new poster for "The Wild, Wild West." Thanks to 'Michael W. L.' and The MovieGarden.

The Basketball Diaries: Popcorn.co.uk just landed a strong story about Leonardo DiCaprio's (great) 1995 film and the Colorado school massacres. It can be found at this location. Thanks to 'Peter.' For those who read the story, and found this to be either a ludicrous or brilliant idea, feel free to voice your opinion in our movie forum >>>

Tart: Anna Paquin is set to star in the indie feature "Tart," which will be produced by Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas' Green Moon Prods. Griffith will also take a role in the film, which begins shooting in September in New York. Christina Wayne makes her directorial debut on the project from a script she also wrote. "Tart" is a dramatic coming-of-age story set in the 1980s and is described as "The Ice Storm" meets "Kids." It tells the story of a teenager (Paquin) at a private school for girls on New York's upper East Side who discovers, along with her rich girlfriends, the world of night clubs, sex and heavy drugs, THR reports.

Pollock: Amy Madigan, John Heard and Jeffrey Tambor have joined the cast of Ed Harris' "Pollock," an indie biopic of legendary abstract painter Jackson Pollock. The period film is Oscar-nominated Harris' directorial debut. It began shooting this week in New York. Bud Cort and Sada Thompson have also joined the period film's cast, which is headed by Harris as Pollock and Marcia Gay Harden as his artist wife Lee Krasner. Barbara Turner and Susan Emshwiller adapted the script from a Pulitzer Prize-winning biography by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith. The film is produced by Harris' Zeke Prods., Fred Berner and Jon Kilik. Peter Brant and Joseph Allen will executive produce, according to THR.

Romeo Must Die: Jet Li ("Lethal Weapon 4") will star as Romeo in this update of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." Juliet will be played by hip-hop singer Aaliyah. The pair's romance is inevitably frowned upon by the other members of their crime families. The $20 million Warner Bros. picture, which begins shooting in Vancouver on May 3, co-stars Russell Wong ("New Jack City"), Delroy Lindo ("Ransom") and Isaiah Washington ("True Crime"). "This film will have a strong urban appeal," producer Joel Silver told Daily Variety. "We're looking to combine a hip-hop soundtrack with an exciting martial arts aesthetic." Cinematographer Andrzej Bartkowiak will make his directing debut on "Romeo." The picture's tentative release date is the first quarter of 2000, according to Variety.

Mission: Impossible 2: Brendan Gleeson ("The General") has been cast in "Mission: Impossible 2" opposite Tom Cruise. In the John Woo-directed film, Gleeson will play an upper-class British industrialist a la Rupert Murdoch who is charming on the surface but the opposite underneath. Ian McKellen, Ving Rhames, Steve Zahn, Thandie Newton and Dougray Scott also star in the project, THR reports.

Eyes Wide Shut: Norwegian magazine ViMenn is reporting that Emma Lou Merchant, who was an extra in the upcoming film, despite all the secrecy, recently revealed some info on her part: "Yes, I have a small role in EWS. During one scene many of us were dancing naked in front of Tom Cruise, but were warned to to stair at him. It would make him too nervous, it was said." Emma Lou had to look none the less. "He looked at me, saw me looking at him, winked at me and smiled. We were shooting this scene for five and a half weeks. I bet Tom Cruise is just as familiar with my body as his wife - Nicole Kidman's!"

The Blair Witch Project: Yet another review for this upcoming horror film which have generated a lot of positive buzz. A few spoilers are included. Thanks to 'DeWyNGaLe.'

The Blair Witch Project (Mixed/Positive)

The Invisible Circus: Cameron Diaz, Christopher Eccleston (''Elizabeth'') and Jordana Brewster (''The Faculty'') star in ''The Invisible Circus,'' which begins shooting next month. The 1960s-set drama follows a teenager (Brewster) as she retraces the steps of her older sister (Diaz) and her boyfriend (Eccleston) through Europe, in order to find out more about her sister's death. Krull Projects: Suzanne Krull ("Go") has landed roles in three features, Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment's "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas," Paramount Pictures and Lakeshore Entertainment's "The Next Best Thing" and TNT feature "A Travesty." In the live-action version of the classic children's tale, Krull will play a Who opposite Jim Carrey as the Grinch and Molly Shannon as Betty Lou Who. Since there is no completed script, director Ron Howard and writers Peter Seaman and Jeffrey Price plan to create characters by exploring the talents of the cast through work sessions. Principal photography is tentatively set for Sept. 6, according to THR.

The Legend of Bagger Vance: Variety reports that Robert Redford is getting set for his next picture, "The Legend of Bagger Vance,'' which he will direct, co-produce and star in. The $70 million picture is a fable about a local golfer, WWI hero Rannulph Junah (Redford), who gets a chance to compete against golf greats Walter Hagen and Bobby Jones in a tournament in 1931, when racial discrimination prevails and golf is almost a religion. During the tournament, Junah is given both spiritual and golf guidance by a mysterious black caddy, Bagger Vance. The role of Vance has not yet been cast although sources close to the project said that Morgan Freeman is the top choice to play the role. Shooting is slated to begin Sept. 8. DreamWorks will distribute domestically.

Honky!: David Arquette ("Never Been Kissed") is set to star in the comedy "Honky!," which is slated for a mid-October start. Arquette will play a clueless white entertainer who has been hired by two black promoters to host a third-rate version of "Soul Train" dubbed "Boogie Fever." What he doesn't know is that he's been hired for his utter lack of talent in order to sink the show's chances and free the producers from their contractual obligations to the network, Variety reports.

Editors Note: For all the forum readers/posters/lurkers, we just added a new feature called "Behind the Screens." It's a short news report which will be handled by Ron Nanney, and posted from time to time in the forum. Be sure to take a look, and feel free to comment on his reports in The Movie Board.

Mission: Impossible 2: With thanks to Trent, here's some new info on this project's first day of shooting:

"Filming for MI2 HAS begun in Sydney. The first day of shooting involved filming a scene at Royal Randwick Racecourse in the Eastern suburbs. It has been confirmed that the racecourse will be the "drop-off point" for the instructions for the new mission. I'm unsure whether any of the major stars were present, or whether this was merely a second unit grabbing some crowd scenes."

See Jane Run: Kevin Corrigan, Richmond Arquette and Jennifer Aspen round out the cast of indie pic "See Jane Run," which is shooting in Los Angeles.
