Deep Blue Sea - Director Renny Harlin's big-budget, underwater actioner "Deep Blue Sea" will be the second film to go under Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow's new co-production deal, the studio said Thursday. Shooting begins August 3 at the Fox Baja Studios in Mexico. Story is about a scientist who, through genetic engineering, produces sharks with the intelligence of dolphins.

Dennis Storhøi and Antonio Banderas The 13th Warrior - Dennis Storhøi (left) recently reported lots of interesting news on this upcoming Viking-project to a Norwegian newspaper, such as:

* The budget is rising to a "Titanic-level", Storhøi said.
* The film's premiere has been pushed to October - November 1998.
* The original $60 mill budget has supposedly grown to about $150(!) million.
* There has already been lots of re-shots, and they are currently re-shooting even more scenes in L.A.
* Maria Bonnevie falls in love with Banderas' character in the film.

Untitled Project - Diane Venora ("The Jackal") has joined Al Pacino, Christopher Plummer and Russell Crowe in director Michael Mann's untitled tobacco industry project. The Disney picture is based on Marie Brenner's Vanity Fair article "The Man Who Knew Too Much," which detailed the true story of Jeffrey Wigand, the former tobacco executive turned whistleblower, and his relationship with "60 Minutes" producer Lowell Bergman (played by Pacino). Crowe will play Wigand, whose life was nearly destroyed by a smear campaign and litigation put into play by the tobacco industry. Venora will portray Wigand's wife, a woman of excellent but overly accessorized taste, who watches her marriage crumble.

The Little Vampire - Jonathan Lipnicki, the 7-year-old actor who cheerfully stole audiences' hearts in "Jerry Maguire," has been attached to Cometstone Pictures' "The Little Vampire." The film, derived from a series of children's books that are best sellers in Europe, is scheduled to get under way in Scotland in early fall. Angela Sommer-Bodenburg's books, of which "The Little Vampire" was the first, concern a youngster who becomes friends with a boy vampire his own age.

Evil Never Dies - Holly Fields has been cast as the female lead in "Evil Never Dies" - the sequel to "Wes Craven's Wishmaster" for Artisan Entertainment. Jack Shoulder is attached to direct and write the project, and Andrew Dixoff reprises his role as the Wishmaster. Fields plays Morgana, an art thief who becomes tormented by nightmares and learns that she has unwittingly unleased an evil force on modern society.

Godzilla

True Crimes - Variety reports that Frances Fisher ("Unforgiven"), has inked to join Eastwood's "True Crimes" for Warner Bros., sources said Wednesday. Fisher will play a Circuit Court attorney in the pic, helmed by and starring Eastwood as a reporter who discovers that a man on death row is innocent and has 24 hours to save him.

SPR Saving Private Ryan - A nice image from Steven Spielberg's upcoming WW2 movie. Also, Steven Spielberg's next film as director will be a screen adaptation of Arthur Golden's novel "Memoirs of a Geisha" for Columbia Pictures and DreamWorks, the two studios announced Tuesday. The novel, which Columbia acquired last December for producer Wick, is described as an "epic Cinderella story set against the exotic and sumptuous background of a vanished world." Gideon's Web - A group of veterans have been cast in Baldwin-Cohen Prods. indie "Gideon's Web," which has started shooting in Los Angeles. Christopher Lambert is executive producing the film and playing the title character, Gideon Web. Starring in the drama are Charlton Heston, Carroll O'Connor, Shirley Jones, Shelley Winters, Mike Connors, Barbara Bain, Crystal Bernard, Mykelti Williamson, Harvey Korman and Taylor Nichols.

Out Of Sight - The Official Site for this upcoming movie has recently opened. It stars George Clooney as an escaped bank robber, and Jennifer Lopez as a Federal Marshal who is determined to recapture him. Below are links to the official trailer, check it out!

Inconvenienced - Jamie Foxx ("The Jamie Foxx Show"), has signed to star in Trimark Pictures' comedy "Inconvenienced." Pic marks the second major feature role for the TV star, following last year's Sony comedy "Booty Call."

Godzilla

Godzilla - A slightly different version of the Japanese poster, click on it for a bigger version. The Mark - Will Smith is reuniting with the filmmaking duo behind "Independence Day" for "The Mark," a futuristic action movie dealing in the supernatural. Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich have come aboard as producers of the Universal project, and are expected to help with the high-tech special effects end of the picture, transforming it into a big-budget high-tech extravaganza. "The Mark," which Smith will star in and also produce, is about a man who finds himself with superhuman powers after an older man transfers a supernatural mark to his hand. Comic book scribe Rob Liefeld is writing the screenplay. Universal plans to shoot the picture in late 1998 or early 1999.

Untitled Road Movie - Viggo Mortensen ("G.I. Jane") is in negotiations to star in Miramax Films' untitled road movie, which is being directed by Alfonso Cuaron. The picture, which at one time was called "Billy, Please Come Home, We Need You," was written by Cuaron and freelance writer Tim Sexton.

Movie Trailers - The trailer for the latest Leslie Nielsen comedy "Wrongfully Accused" is now available for downloading. The movie supposedly spoofs The Fugitive. Also a new trailer for the animated feature "The Quest For Camelot."

Plunge - Kate Winslet followed up her role in "Titanic" by playing a cameo role in a micro-budget British picture titled "Plunge," without the knowledge of her agent. "Plunge," directed by Max Newsom and produced by his company Longboard Films, was shot last fall in Cornwall, England with a budget of around $300,000 raised from friends, family and private investors.

Carrie II - Newcomers Charlotte Lopez and Elijah Craig have joined the cast of "Carrie II," the sequel to the 1976 Brian De Palma shocker. Amy Irving, Emily Bergl, Dylan Bruno and Jason London also star in the United Artists propject, which is being directed by Robert Mandel ("The Substitute"). Lopez will play Tracy, girlfriend of one of the high school jocks who plays a cruel trick on a female student (Bergl). Craig plays one of the jocks, Chuck.

Celebrity - Variety reports that Woody Allen and Miramax Films are back in business again. Miramax has acquired North American rights to Woody Allen's latest film, "Celebrity" - an ensemble comedy starring Kenneth Branagh, Judy Davis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Melanie Griffith, Famke Janssen, Joe Mantegna, Gretchen Mol, Winona Ryder, Charlize Theron and others.

The Wood - Jamie Foxx, Omar Epps and Richard T. Jones are in talks to do "The Wood" for MTV Films. The project is a nostalgic comedy about three twentysomething friends who go to a wedding and reminisce about their youth in Inglewood, Calif., in the 1980s.

Speedway Junky - Daryl Hannah has signed to star as the female lead in "Speedway Junky," a low-budget picture about a runaway teen-ager who dreams of becoming a pro race car driver. Hannah will play an ex-showgirl whose motherly ways help guide the teen as he finds his true identity. The $1 million project begins shooting June 1 on location in Las Vegas. It marks the directorial debut of short film-maker Nickolas Perry, who wrote the script. Gus Van Sant executive produces.

Titanic made cinematic history this Saturday, surging to a $1 billion gross outside North America, setting a new benchmark for other blockbusters and almost certainly ensuring that distributor 20th Century Fox Intl. will win top honors in the U.S. majors' overseas derby this year.
