8MM The Thin Red Line The Other Sister

Movie Posters: A pretty mediocre copy of the "8MM" poster. The minute I get a cleaner copy I'll add it. Also a great scan of the "Thin Red Line" poster and one for the Juliette Lewis/Diane Keaton starrer "The Other Sister." Thanks to 'Michael' and 'Kevin.'

The World is Not Enough: Sophie Marceau ("Braveheart") will co-star in the latest installment of the James Bond franchise. She will play Elektra King, the daughter of a murdered oil tycoon whom Bond (Pierce Brosnan) was assigned to protect. Michael Apted directs the still untitled "Bond 19'' picture, which begins production Jan. 11 in locations around the world and is slated for release from MGM on Nov. 19, 1999. Bruce Feirstein is rewriting a script originally written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

American Psycho: Chloe Sevigny ("Kids") is in advanced negotiations to star opposite Christian Bale in the on-again, off-again adaptation of "American Psycho.'' The picture is based on Bret Easton Ellis' gruesome 1991 novel about a Wall Street dealer who maims, tortures and kills his victims and also admires Genesis and Whitney Houston. It is due to begin shooting next spring, with Mary Harron ("I Shot Andy Warhol'') directing from a script she co-wrote with Guinevere Turner.

Gladiator: Joaquin Phoenix ("U-Turn") has signed to star opposite Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott's "Gladiator." Phoenix will portray the emperor of Rome in the dramatic epic that is being co-produced by DreamWorks and Universal. It's the story of warriors who battle to protect their empire in the ancient city.

Conflicts Of Religion: 'Mango Man' send along a scoop about a possible Mandalay Entertainment project:

Mandalay Entertainment is reportedly going to produce "Conflicts of Religion." The film is about a young man, Mitchell Baxter, who questions the existence of god, so he gathers together all of his friends who are of different religions and they discuss their beliefs. The discussions put the friends against Mitchell. Mitchell then must try to make peace with his friends while struggling with his own beliefs. No actors or director tied to the project as of now. The film is written by Anthony Waller ("An american werewolf in Paris) and may also be directed by him. Tristar Pictures will distribute.

The Missing Day: Also, 'bellamyellamy' sent in some news on a possible John Travolta project (?):

John Travolta is in talks to star in "The Missing Day." A day is skipped, or so appears to have. Noone in the world can recall anything happening on November 6th. The film is about the world struggling with the question, "What happened to November 6th?" Travolta's character suspects that everything except for time stood still and something mysterious happened on that day that nonone knows about. Universal Pictures will distribute. The film will also star Rene Russo, Brad Dourif, and Laurence Fishburne. Chuck Russell (Eraser, The Mask) to direct.

HurlyBurly: LegitCrit recently caught a studio screening of "HurlyBurly," an all-star-cast flick with actors such as Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey and Meg Ryan:

Hurlyburly - A Film Review (Positive)

Blue Streak: Luke Wilson ("Home Fries") is in negotiations to co-star with Martin Lawrence in "Blue Streak.'' Les Mayfield ("Flubber'') is set to direct the Columbia Pictures action comedy about an ex-con (Lawrence) who impersonates a cop in order to find the jewels he hid before he went to prison. Wilson will play, coincidentally, Wilson, a detective trainee partnered with Lawrence's phony flatfoot. "Blue Streak'' begins shooting Jan 25.

Minority Report: Steven Spielberg's collaboration with Tom Cruise, moved a step closer to reality when DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox confirmed they would co-produce the sci-fi thriller. The film is expected to begin shooting next fall. "Minority Report" is based on Jon Cohen's draft of the Philip K. Dick short story about a cop in a futuristic judicial system in which killers are arrested for murders they have yet to commit. The special-effects-heavy picture is expected to cost in the relatively thrifty $80 million neighborhood, plus substantial gross participation by Cruise and Spielberg. Full Story >>>

Editors Note: The poll results are (finally) in: 39% looked very much forward to the recently released film "Star Trek: Insurrection," 27% were kinda looking forward to it and 34% were not looking forward to it at all. A new poll is now up! Also, be sure to check out our latest article and give Jeff some feedback.

The World is Not Enough: Denise Richards ("Starship Troopers," "Wild Things") has been cast as a nuclear weapons expert named Dr. Christmas Jones opposite Pierce Brosnan in the next James Bond flick. U-571: Matthew McConaughey is in talks to step in for Michael Douglas in Universal's long-brewing World War II submarine action drama "U-571." He would play the captain of a U.S. Navy vessel dispatched on a risky mission to steal a decoding device from a stranded German submarine, the U-571. The picture is slated to go before the cameras in mid-January in Malta and at Cinecitta Studios in Rome, Italy.

The Thirteenth Floor: A trailer has appeared for this upcoming sci-fi thriller starring Craig Bierko, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Gretchen Mol and Vincent D'Onofrio with thanks to the official site.

Gladiator: Djimon Hounsou ("Amistad") is set to star opposite Russell Crowe in "Gladiator" for director Ridley Scott and DreamWorks. In the epic drama about fight-to-the-death battles in ancient Rome, Hounsou will play the second-in-command to a Roman warrior (Crowe) who joins the world of the gladiators in order to exact revenge on a man who has banished him from the empire. The film was written by David Franzoni and John Logan, and will be produced by Douglas Wick. "Gladiator" is scheduled for a February start date.

Keeping the Faith: Edward Norton ("American History X") is set to play a priest in his feature directing debut "Keeping the Faith." The $30 million romantic comedy will also star Ben Stiller as a rabbi and will start shooting in May. As children, the priest and rabbi forged a close friendship, along with a girl the same age. Their friendship with her ended when she moved away at age 12, but something closer to love blossoms between her and each man as she re-emerges when they are in their late 20s. By this time, they've got more than the usual problems of two friends falling in love with the same woman: the priest is thwarted by his vow of celibacy, and the rabbi by the girl's being a gentile. Norton will also serve as a producer, along with Yale pal Stuart Blumberg who wrote the script and Howard Koch Jr.

George Best Biopic: John Lynch is playing Irish soccer legend George Best in an $8 million biopic that started shooting last week. The feature also stars Ian Hart and Linus Roache as Best's Manchester United teammates, with Patsy Kensit as his ex-wife Angie and Ian Bannen as team manager Matt Busby. Lynch co-wrote the screenplay with the film's director Mary McGuckian. Best himself has authorized the film and will play a cameo role.

Star Wars Episode II: I got an anonymous scoop saying: "Last week while delivering three faxes to the office I intern at at Twentieth Century Fox I overheard a reference to the second episode of Star Wars. Although there has been no official title yet named for this film, I heard two different executives refer to the title as "The Empire Strikes." It seems as if this is the title because I snuck a look at the headers on the fax from Lucasfilm and found.." The scoop stopped in the middle of that sentence, take it with a truckload of salt.

Jack Frost: LegitCrit recently caught a studio screening of "Jack Frost," a comedy about a father, Michael Keaton, who is killed and brought back to life in the form of his sons snowman:

Jack Frost - A Film Review (Mixed)

Love's Labour's Lost: Alicia Silverstone has been signed by Kenneth Branagh to star alongside him in "Love's Labour's Lost,'' the Shakespearean piece that will be mounted as a '30s-style musical. Branagh, who'll star and direct from his own script, has set Silverstone for the role of the princess and is negotiating with Nathan Lane, Matthew Lillard ("Scream'') and Adrien Lester ("Primary Colors'') for supporting roles. Branagh is moving quickly to fill the three other principal roles in the eight-character piece, which will be distributed domestically by Miramax.
