Wild, Wild West - Kenneth Branagh has signed on to play the diabolically brilliant bad guy Dr. Arliss Loveless in "Wild, Wild West," a fantasy adventure-comedy loosely based on the 1960s TV series of the same title. Branagh (Henry V, Hamlet) will play opposite Will Smith and Kevin Kline in the Warner Bros. project, which is set for an April 22 start. Barry Sonnenfeld is directing from a script by Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman.

New Project - Variety reports that Sony's TriStar Pictures has just said "Go" to Doug Liman's first helming effort since "Swingers," sources said Friday. The studio nabbed rights to the gritty comedy over fervent interest from Paramount, Miramax, DreamWorks, Live Entertainment and Polygram. Christina Ricci ("The Ice Storm") and "Dawson's Creek" star Katie Holmes are set to topline the project. The picture is about the misadventures of a check-out girl, a British drug pusher and two aspiring actors whose paths cross in L.A. and then move on to Las Vegas.

Almost Heroes - The trailer for Chris Farley's final comedy is now availble for downloading. The movie co-stars Mathew Perry and Eugene Levy.

Crazy in Alabama - Antonio Banderas will make his feature directing debut in late April on "Crazy in Alabama," which will star his wife, Melanie Griffith. Based on the 1993 Putnam novel by Mark Childress, the film is about an orphan named Peejoe who is raised by his eccentric aunt, who will be played by Griffith. It is set in the 1960s at the height of racial tensions in Alabama. The budget for the TriStar project is about $15 million. Banderas just finished shooting TriStar's big-budget action movie "The Mask of Zorro" alongside Anthony Hopkins.

Titanic continued to dominate the domestic box office this weekend, selling $33 million worth of tickets over the Presidents Day holiday. It is the ninth straight weekend "Titanic'' has been the number one movie in the U.S. This weekend's receipts put the film's earning at $376.4 million. "Titanic'' has now bumped "Jurassic Park'' out of the number three position in all-time box office sales. The next challenge is surpassing E.T's $399.8 million in ticket sales.

Box Office - "The Wedding Singer'' made history this weekend as the biggest opening ever for a film during the Presidents Day weekend. The romantic comedy, starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, took in $22.2 million in ticket sales, beating the Presidents Day weekend launch of "Wayne's World'' in 1992. "Wedding'' also had the best opening against ''Titanic'' since the ship drama's December 19 debut. Rounding out the top five at the box office this weekend were "Sphere'' at number three, "Good Will Hunting'' at four, and "As Good as it Gets'' at five.

Jordan said he got the part after joking to an agent friend last year about getting him into a movie. So when the call came, Jordan flew to Savannah for three days of work.
