January 30th/Feb 1st 1998 - Movie News/Rumours

U.S. Marshals

U.S. Marshals - The Official Poster was just released on the net. Let's hope a trailer also shows up soon!

Soldier - While Kurt Russell is known as an athletic actor who does a lot of his own stunts on the set, home is another matter. Russell broke his foot in a household accident Monday and has been gritting through the pain working on the Paul Anderson-directed Warner Bros. action film ''Soldier.'' The film, which will be retitled, stars Russell as a futuristic super-soldier pitted against a superior warrior, played by Jason Scott Lee.

Portofino - Variety reports that John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest have signed to star in "Portofino," a romantic comedy detailing the clash between a U.S. and British family vacationing in the title locale. The film will be directed by Malcolm Mowbray.

The Mask of Zorro - Found a few cool images from this upcoming movie starring Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins today. More can be found on the Official Site. Thanks to 'Jawad' for the alert!

Quicktime Man In The Iron Mask Full Trailer (6.4 MB)

Deep Rising & Sphere - Below are links to better quality trailers of these two upcoming flicks. Haven't seen any of the trailers myself, but I suppose (and hope) they are new:

Quicktime Sphere Full Trailer (8.6 MB)

Get Shorty 2 - Elmore Leonard is writing the sequel to his most popular book/movie character. The novel is being called for now Be Cool and puts Chili into the music industry. It is expected to be apapted for the big screen with John Travolta to reprise the role.

Editors Note - Sorry, but there was not enough news today for even a half update. Therefore I had to keep the Friday and Saturday news, and just add a few stories today. Hopefully there will be some cool news tomorrow!

SuperBowl Trailers - What can I say? A HUGE thanks to Dark Horizons for both finding and hosting these cool-looking clips. The AVI versions have the best quality. Enjoy!

Supernova: James Spader, last seen in the Sidney Lumet box office misfire "Critical Care,'' is in advanced talks to star in the outer-space thriller "Supernova.'' Geoffrey Wright (Romper Stomper, Metal Skin) is slated to direct the film about a deep space rescue ship that answers a distress call from a damaged space freighter and is threatened by a dangerous being they encounter. The project is scheduled for an April shooting start. Spader also recently appeared in David Cronenberg's film adaptation of the J.G. Ballard novel "Crash.''

Esquivel - Variety reports that John Leguizamo is attached to star in the title role of "Esquivel," a biopic of the famed Mexican bandleader Juan Garcia Esquivel for Fox Searchlight and Leguizamo's Gotham-based Lower East Side Films.

Armageddon SuperBowl trailer (yes, again) - The Official Armageddon Site just released the same trailer I put up links to yesterday, but I suspect this version is a lot better in terms of image and sound quality:

Quicktime Armageddon SuperBowl Clip (6.6 MB)

Blade - The new trailer for this upcoming vampire movie starring Wesley Snipes is now available to download. Thanks to both Dark Horizons and Supplex for finding and hosting it!

Quicktime Blade Full Trailer (12.7 MB)

The Perfect Storm - Wolfgang Petersen will return to the sea to develop and possibly direct a film based on Sebastian Junger's bestselling nonfiction book "The Perfect Storm," about a deadly North Atlantic northeaster. Junger's book, which has spent 35 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, describes the powerful 1991 tempest whose enormous waves sank a Gloucester, Mass., fishing boat, drowning its entire crew.

Editors Note - Slow news day today. I might have to only add news every once in a while from now on. I currently have 0 sources, and it's very hard to find enough cool news around the net for a full update. I'll think about it for a few days, and I hope you will send in your movie scoops! I give credit/link to those who want that, and I never reveal the real names of those who want to remain anonymous. See you all tomorrow!
