** January 1st - 4th 1998 - Movie News/Rumours **

Box Office - Paramount's Titanic steamed past $100 million in domestic ticket sales Tuesday, after just 12 days in release. The Leonardo DiCaprio - Kate Winslet starrer became the 12th film released this year to pass the milestone. It's the second one for Paramount, after "Face/Off's" $112.2 million North American run.

Jackie Brown - Quentin Tarantino took considerable liberties when he set about making a movie out of the Elmore Leonard book "Rum Punch." He changed the title to "Jackie Brown," shifted the setting from Florida to California and changed the race and name of the lead character. Leonard wasn't bothered by the changes at all. "Going in, I know what can happen," Leonard said in a Chicago Tribune interview. "... Quentin stuck with the plot and made something out of it." Another Leonard work, "Get Shorty," was a recent hit for Hollywood and he's now at work on a sequel.

Jackie Brown#2 - The script for Quentin Tarantino's new movie is now available on the internet, if you have seen the movie (or wanna spoil it), you can download or read a copy right here: Script.

Austin Powers: 2 - This might be old news for most people, but since Austin Powers just opened here in Norway I'll include this: "Mike Myers has signed up to star. No other details have been released yet, but Liz Hurley is keen to do the second part too."

U.S. Marshals - Dark Horizons just added the new pictures from that "sea.hqx" file over at Warner Home Video. Anyway, here they are if you wanna check them out: Pic1, Pic2, Pic3, Pic4.

Chris Farley - Comedian Chris Farley died from an overdose of opiates and cocaine, the Cook County, Ill. medical examiner says. Cook County Medical Examiner Edmund Donoghue released the results of toxicology tests that showed high levels of morphine, cocaine and a cocaine-related chemical in Farley's blood, and said that an early form of heart disease contributed ``significantly'' to his death. The autopsy report also said traces of marijuana, the anti-depressant drug Prozac and an antihistamine were found in Farley's system. The 33-year-old former ``Saturday Night Live'' star was found dead in his Chicago apartment on Dec. 18.

1997 Box Office - The final numbers on 1997 box office revenues are in. "Men in Black" made more money than any other film with a take of nearly $250 million. Some of the more disappointing films were "Seven Years in Tibet" and "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." The biggest bust was considered to be "Speed 2." And while Kevin Costner's "The Postman" just opened, its sluggish earnings already have put it on the list of the year's biggest film disasters.

Will Smith & Jada Pinkett - 'Men in Black' star Will Smith and actress Jada Pinkett began the New Year together as Mr. and Mrs. The stars got married on New Year's Eve at a mansion outside Baltimore, the bride's hometown. With the help of tight security, they managed to keep it a very private affair, according to published reports. But some guests didn't mind sharing a few details. Actress Jasmine Guy told The Washington Post that it was a beautiful ceremony. And 9-year-old Ross Bagley, who starred as Smith's son in "Independence Day'' revealed that ``Jada cried.'' The groom's sister, Ellen Smith, reported that Pinkett wore a fitted, champagne-colored dress by Valentino. Pinkett is pregnant with the couple's first child. Smith has a five-year-old son from a previous marriage.
