The Deep End of the Ocean Rushmore

The Adventures of Tom Thumb and Thumbelina: Miramax is going to produc the animatedmusical fairy tale "The Adventures of Tom Thumb and Thumbelina" with Hyperion Studios. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Elijah Wood will voice the title characters in an original script by Willard Carroll ("Playing by Heart") based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale. When a giant overruns their village, two tiny people are separated from their kin. Returning home 15 years later, they learn they were royalty betrothed to each other during childhood.

The World Is Not Enough: ShowBIZ reports that John Cleese has been cast in the new James Bond film, The World Is Not Enough, as a "bumbling government worker," the British tabloid The Sun reported Wednesday. The former Monty Python member reportedly will play an assistant to Q, the agent who has provided high-tech gadgets to Bond since the initial films. Production of the Bond movie started earlier this week at Pinewood Studios.

Ghosting: Steve Miner ("Halloween: H20") will return to Dimension Films to helm supernatural horror pic "Ghosting." The film, still in development, is a classic telling of a ghost story set in a small, isolated East Coast college campus in the present day. Stephen Susco and John Weidner wrote the script. The film will be produced by Scott Rosenberg, chairman of comic book company Platinum Studios.

The Mummy: A trailer for this upcoming remake of the classic 1932 horror film. This movie has been getting a lot of buzz lately, and the trailer is supposedly great, click below to download it:

The World of Jumanji: 'ritchieK' has some news on the upcoming "Jumaji" sequel written by Adam Rifkin ("Small Soldiers.")

Composer Bruce Broughton (Lost in Space) is rumored to compose the score for the sequel taking the place of James Horner (Titanic, Deep Impact) who refused to return. The film will star Rick Moranis, Karen Allen, and Joseph Mazzello. The film is set for a Spring 2000 release. Patrick Read Johnson (Baby's Day out) is rumored to direct.

21 Shots: Steven Reuther's Bel Air Entertainment has optioned "21 Shots," to be developed for director Dan Rosen and "There's Something About Mary" producer Michael Steinberg. Written by Marjorie Wellin, "21 Shots" is a comedy about a young man emotionally attached to high school. As a third-time senior, he falls in love with a college girl and realizes it's time to grow up. Creative exec Brad Follmer brought the project to the company and will oversee along with senior vp John Schimmel and vp Christy Callahan.

Love's Labour's Lost: Alessandro Nivola ("Face/Off") is in final negotiations to star as the king in Kenneth Branagh's "Love's Labour's Lost" for Miramax Films and Intermedia. Nivola joins a cast that includes Alicia Silverstone, Nathan Lane, Natasha McElhone and Branagh in the Shakespearean adaptation to be filmed in the vein of a 1930s Hollywood romantic comedy. Branagh wrote the screenplay and will direct the feature, which is budgeted at less than $12 million. David Barron will produce, and Nigel Sinclair and Guy East are executive producing.

The Rage: Carrie 2: The Official Site has posted the trailer for this sequel to Stephen King's classic.

Battlefield Earth: Roger Christian will direct John Travolta in this sci-fi action film for Franchise Entertainment. The story revolves around a rebelious hero who saves the earth from an oppressive race of 10-ft. tall aliens. The film, based on the novel by L. Ron Hubbard, is written by Corey Mandel. Elie Samaha, Jonathan Krane and Travolta will produce with Franchise’s Ashok Amritraj and Andrew Stevens alongside as executive producers. Filming begins in Canada and Los Angeles on July 1.

Do Not Disturb: William Hurt and Jennifer Tilly have been cast to star this black-humored action thriller from Dutch director Dick Maas. Hurt plays the father of an American family in Amsterdam whose mute daughter, played by Francesca Brown, witnesses a murder. Tilly plays the mother in the film, which is set for release by the end of this year.

The Sixth Day: Director Joe Dante, has signed a deal to make this action-adventure cloning thriller. Set in the future, a helicopter pilot comes home to find himself replaced by a clone. When the forces that cloned him find out he's still alive, they attempt to exterminate him. Phoenix Pictures plans to get the project into production by June.

Standing Room Only: John Travolta is set to start as Jimmy Roselli, in his first singing role since 'Grease.' Travolta will play a crooner favored by the mafia and then targeted for extinction when he rejected them. The film, which begins shooting March 15, will be under the control of director Gus Van Sant.

28 Days: Sandra Bullock is set to star in "28 Days" a comedy-drama being directed by Betty Thomas for Columbia Pictures. Bulluck will play a columnist for a major urban newspaper who is forced into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center after getting a traffic ticket for driving under the influence. Thomas’ partner, Jenno Topping will produce the film that was written by Susannah Grant.

At First Sight

At First Sight: A new poster for this Val Kilmer/Mira Sorvino romantic drama which opens this Friday in the US. Thanks to EXEZEEWHY for the poster!

Reindeer Games: John Frankenheimer ("Ronin'') has signed to direct "Reindeer Games," a thriller about an ex-con tricked into robbing a casino. The film, from Miramax's Dimension Films genre banner, starts shooting in Canada in two months. Ehren Kruger ("Arlington Road") wrote the script. "This is one of the best-written scripts I've read in a long time," Frankenheimer told Daily Variety.

Detox: Robert Patrick is set to joins Sylvester Stallone as a fellow cop in the Jim Gillespie-directed Universal drama "Detox" and is near a deal to play Matt Damon's father in the Billy Bob Thornton-directed "All the Pretty Horses." Full Story >>>

Flora Plum: Jodie Foster ("Contact") will direct her third movie when she enters the ring for "Flora Plum," a 1930s love story set in a circus. The picture follows a "freak'' who takes pity on a penniless waif and puts her on the road to stardom, but falls in love with her on the way. Claire Danes is in talks to star in the film, although no deal is done and parties characterized the discussions as "preliminary." Steven Rogers wrote the script. The project is set up at October Films.

Mission to Mars: Director Gore Verbinski ("Mouse Hunt") has dropped out of the big-budget Walt Disney Co. dramatic adventure "Mission to Mars" project over creative and budgetary differences. Verbinski and "Mission to Mars" producer Tom Jacobson ("Mighty Joe Young") agreed to part ways Friday. The film, supervised by Walt Disney Motion Picture Group president David Vogel, had been in preproduction for six to eight weeks and was set for a May or June start. The $60 million-$80 million picture is a dramatic adventure tale about the first and second missions to Mars -- the second is a mission to learn what went wrong with the first and to rescue any survivors from a disaster that occurred on the planet.
