Movie Posters: A poster for the "From Dusk 'Till Dawn" sequel, "Texas Blood Money" and also a poster for the Sarah Michelle Gellar starrer "Cruel Intensions." Thanks to Dark Horizons for the first poster! Jared Leto will star in "Requiem for a Dream," writer-director Darren Aronofsky's follow-up feature to last's year Sundance hit "Pi." In addition, Leto is in negotiations to co-star in Mary Herron's "American Psycho," the indie thriller that had Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star. "Requiem," based on Hubert Selby's novel, tells two parallel stories. In one, Leto portrays Harry, an eccentric young man who dreams of being a wealthy club owner in New York and sets off for the Big Apple with his junkie friends. In the other story, Harry's diet-pill dependent mother obsesses over becoming a game show contestant. Wonder Boys: Tobey Maguire ("Pleasantville") will star opposite Michael Douglas, Robert Downey Jr. and Francis McDormand in "Wonder Boys." Based on Michael Chabon's bestseller, the Paramount drama follows a middle-aged writer and professor (Douglas) who is way behind his deadline for the follow-up to his successful first novel. Maguire will play a promising young novelist and student of Douglas' character. Curtis Hanson ("L.A. Confidential") will direct from a script by Steve Kloves. Bruce Willis Project: Craig sent along some tidbits about an upcoming Bruce Willis film that will be shot in his hometown of Winnipeg, MB (Canada): * It's an
action-drama with a $30-50 million budget. Movie Trailers: A trailer for the horror/comedy "Idle Hands" and one for "Jawbreaker" starring Rose McGowan ("Scream") and Rebecca Gayheart ("Urban Legend.") Thanks to Eon Magazine.
Jesus' Son: Billy Crudup ("The Hi-Lo Country") and Samantha Morton ("Under the Skin") have agreed to star in "Jesus' Son," a road movie tracing the volatile relationship between a man and a terrifyingly charismatic woman. Currently shooting in Philadelphia, the indie film is directed by Allison MacLean ("Crush" which won critical acclaim at the Cannes, Sundance and Toro.) Holly Hunter, Dennis Hopper, Denis Leary, Will Patton and Greg Germann (TV's "Ally McBeal") have supporting roles in the 1970s-set film. The script is based on Denis Johnson's collection of short stories "Jesus' Son." Frequency: New Line has greenlit "Frequency," with Greg Hoblit directing Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel in the Toby Emmerich-scripted thriller with a strong father-son element. The film, produced by Howard "Hawk'' Koch Jr., will shoot in May. "It's best described as a reality-based time travel movie, which I realize is an oxymoron," said Hoblit. "It's a very tricky movie that took a long time to come together because the casting was so crucial." One strong action element involves a murder they prevent, but Hoblit says, "The real interest I have is a son who lived a lifetime with the pain of not having a father, who suddenly gets to communicate with him."
The Mod Squad: The poster survey at the Official Site has ended, and above is a copy of the official poster selected by the public. Monkey Bone: Brendan Fraser ("Gods and Monsters") is close to a deal to star in the supernatural adventure "Monkey Bone." The picture, set up at Fox Animation Studios, will combine live-action photography with stop-motion animation. Fraser will play a neurotic cartoonist with a hit animated TV show. After a car crash, he winds up in a coma and must join forces with one of his creations, Monkey Bone, to outwit Death and escape Dark Town, a purgatory-like limbo between life and death. Sandler Project: Adam Sandler has pacted with Sony Pictures for an untitled animated musical featuring a cartoon character based on him. Sandler came up with the idea and personally pitched to Columbia Pictures president Amy Pascal. Columbia wants to move ahead quickly since production will likely take several years. Sandler, who will produce the comedy with his business partner, Jack Giarraputo, will voice the character himself. There is no screenwriter attached as yet. Thanksgiving: Rod Steiger ("Mars Attacks!") will star in and direct Zeta Entertainment and Cutting Edge Entertainment's "Thanksgiving." This marks the first time the Oscar-winning actor has directed a feature. Filming is slated to get under way this summer in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. The story focuses on three older men, friends for years, who come together to celebrate Thanksgiving. The Gelfin: 'AtomBomb'
drops us a scoop about this horror/comedy project. Thanks
again to 'AtomBomb.' Batman 5?: I have no idea if this has been reported before, but 'Michael' sent in a scoop about a possible Batman project: Just finished reading my latest copy of "Entertainment Weekly" and it states the following about the next Batman feature. Not a motion picture, not a animated tv series, get this "BATMAN-The Musical". Broadway has stated that it is very interested in doing a musical about the Caped Crusader. With such hits as, 'Beauty and the Beast', 'The Lion King' and even 'Footloose', they believe this could be a hit. No curtain date is scheduled, but it is in "predevelopment development". Grammy winning composer Jim Steinman (best known for songs on Meatloaf's-"Bat Out of Hell") has been approached to do the music. Just alittle info on what they believe might salvage the 'Batman' franchise. Anything is possible after "Batman & Robin". Later! Editors Note: If you're interested in the very nice, rare advance poster for "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace," check out the site below, as they have three posters left: My Favorite Movie - Poster Site
Movie Posters: A new poster for the Chow Yun-Fat/Mark Wahlberg action flick "The Corruptor," one for the Antonio Banderas-directed indie film "Crazy in Alabama" and finally a poster for "Simply Irresistible" starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. 13 Days: Less than two weeks after the Cuban missile crisis project "13 Days'' found a new studio home, the film's director has dropped out. Sources attributed Phil Alden Robinson's withdrawal to that old standby, "creative differences.'' Kevin Costner is still attached. The film's co-producers, Beacon Communications and Sony Pictures, are looking to get a new director onboard for an April start. Movie Trailers: A trailer for "Analyze This" starring Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal. The trailer for the Eddie Murphy/Martin Lawrence film "Life" is available in both Quicktime and Real Video, also a traile for the Sean Connery/Catherine Zeta-Jones starrer "Entrapment" and finally a trailer for "Simply Irresistable."
Texas Chainsaw
Massacre 5: 'PsychoCrod' drops
by a scoop about the upcoming Chainsaw project. Thanks
again to 'PsychoCrod.' Battlefield Earth: John Travolta's pet project "Battlefield Earth,'' a film based on the sci-fi novel by his spiritual guru L. Ron Hubbard, has moved closer to reality. Roger Christian has committed to direct Travolta in the story of a rebel hero who saves the earth from an oppressive race of 10-ft. tall aliens. Travolta, who has been fascinated by "Battlefield Earth'' for some time, will play the leader of the extra-terrestrials, and will get his usual fee of about $20 million. The role of the hero is not yet cast. Hubbard is the founder of Scientology, of which Travolta is an enthusiastic follower. Cast Away: Helen Hunt ("As Good As It Gets") has signed on to film a small, possibly unbilled role in the Tom Hanks feature "Cast Away." While Hanks takes the spotlight in the contemporary drama about one man's struggles on a deserted island, Hunt -- who will play Hanks' fed-up girlfriend, with scenes in the beginning and near the end of the picture -- will have to split her few days in front of the camera over several months. Robert Zemeckis will direct this Fox/DreamWorks film, which begins production later this month in Moscow's Red Square before moving on to Nashville, Fiji and then Los Angeles.
