Movie Posters: A poster for "200 Cigarettes," a comedy/drama starring Courtney Love, Christina Ricci, Ben Affleck and Janeane Garofalo just to name a few. Also a mediocre scan of the Robert De Niro/Billy Crystal starrer "Analyze This." More Info >>> 15 Minutes: Robert De Niro ("Ronin") and Edward Burns ("Saving Private Ryan") are near a deal to star in the thriller "15 Minutes," which is scheduled for a late April shoot in New York and L.A. The New Line Cinema project will star De Niro as a famous homicide detective who teams with a fire department investigator (Burns) to a solve a murder case. John Herzfeld ("2 Days in the Valley") will direct from his own script. Bicentennial Man: Embeth Davidtz ("Schindler's List") has been cast as the lead female opposite Robin Williams in the romantic drama "Bicentennial Man." Davidtz will play two roles in the Disney picture, which stars Williams as an android servant who becomes more human over the two centuries he spends with a family. The actress will portray a young woman whom Williams takes care of as a girl; and then later the grandaughter of that woman. Based on the short story of the same title by Isaac Asimov, the picture is directed by Chris Columbus ("Stepmom") from a screenplay by Nicholas Kazan. Editors Note: A short update this weekend, more info will be added tomorrow (Monday). Also, it seems like the famous Superbowl Sunday is tonight. I have no idea for which films there will be trailers/teasers, but hopefully someone will digitize them, so those who didn't watch the Superbowl for whatever reason can also check them out. Talk about the Superbowl trailers? >>>
Entrapment: Above are two new images from this upcoming movie about an insurance investigator (Catherine Zeta-Jones) who convinces her boss that only she can set the trap to catch legendary gentleman thief Robert MacDougal (Sean Connery), by posing as a master thief herself. Thanks to Movieweb and Jawad. Topper: Universal Pictures is developing a remake of "Topper," the 1937 comedy starring Cary Grant and Constance Bennett as mischievous ghosts who haunt stuffy banker Roland Young. The studio, whose recent update of "Psycho" failed to scare up much commercial or critical enthusiasm, is in talks with Hugh Wilson ("The First Wives Club") to write and direct the new "Topper." Movie Trailers: The Asterix movie's official site has opened up with a new trailer to check out. Also a trailer for the upcoming Chow Yun-Fat/Mark Wahlberg action flick "The Corruptor" and the official "Ed TV" trailer:
The Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas: Jane Krakowsky (TV's "Ally McBeal") will star as a young, tantalizing Betty Rubble in Universal Pictures' "The Flintstones" prequel, "Viva Rock Vegas." She joins Mark Addy and Kristen Johnston as Fred and Wilma Flintstone and Stephen Baldwin as Barney Rubble in the story that sees the newly married twentysomething couples embark on a trip to the Stone Age version of Las Vegas. Brian Levant, who directed the original 1994, will also helm "Viva." Steven Spielberg will executive produce through his Amblin Entertainment. Memoirs of a Geisha: In response to the question "Will you ever make "Memoirs of a Geisha?" (the Asia-themed picture he put on hold at Columbia Pictures?), Steven Spielberg gave a resounding "yes" response this week, shooting down rumors that he was disappointed in the latest screenplay. "It's always been going ahead," he said. "I don't think people understand why I postponed it a year; I've never declared a film and then put it off (like this). I simply will repeat that I'm nervous that the millennium and the end of 1999 will have a lot of events -- not just motion picture events but global happenings. I was worried that a lovely, small Asian story was going to get lost in the revelry. I persuaded Columbia to let me delay it a year, and they were gracious to say yes." As for the script, Spielberg said he was thrilled and felt it was among "Rain Man" scribe Ron Bass' best work. "Memoirs," based on Arthur Golden's best-selling novel, tells the epic story of a Japanese geisha.
Movie Posters: The first poster is for a new romantic comedy 'She's All That' starring Freddie Prinze Jr. The second poster is for the film 'The Rage: Carrie 2,' which is a sequel to Steven King's classic thriller. Thanks to EXEZEEWHY. More Info >>> Space Cowboys: Tommy Lee Jones is set to join Clint Eastwood in the cockpit of the space shuttle in "Space Cowboys," a Warner Bros. film Eastwood will direct this summer. In a premise made plausible by John Glenn's recent adventure, Eastwood and Jones' characters are drafted by NASA to fly a crucially important shuttle mission decades after they were crack pilots and passed over for the astronaut program because they were too cocky. The script is by Ken Kaufman and Howard Klausner. More Info >>> The Hitcher 2: Rutger Hauer has given thumbs up for a sequel to "The Hitcher,'' reprising his creepy role as the hitchhiking serial killer from the 1986 horror hit. The sequel was scripted by Gerald DiPego ("Phenomenon"). A rewrite's being done by DiPego's sons, Zachary and Justin, and the film will be produced by Steve White, Sherry Singer and Fred Haber, who'll sell foreign rights at AFM and then sign a domestic deal later. "The tone is 'Scream' in that it's horrifying with a witty overlay, hopefully more 'Usual Suspects' than 'Nightmare on Elm Street," said Hauer's manager, Joan Hyler, who's helping sell it. Munchies: Australian director Jamie Blanks ("Urban Legend") has signed to direct MGM's teen comedy "Munchies." The film tells the story of four unpopular and anorexic high school girls known derisively to their peers as the "stick chicks.'' After a brief stint at a diet clinic, however, the quartet return healthy, happy and eating everything in sight, including human flesh. The project, based on David Kukoff and Matt Roshkow's spec script, is set to begin shooting in mid-April. Editors Note: The results for the previous poll are now in: ("Are you looking forward to the upcoming Bond 19 film?")
You may also have noticed that the poster section has expanded into a brand new site, it's called Posters 'N Movie Pages and will also feature upcoming movie fan sites by Craig Guiboche and myself. Also seems like the movie forum is finally starting to pick up the pace a little, which is good, 'cause things were looking pretty grim for a while there. Company Man: Ryan Phillippe ("Playing by Heart"), Alan Cumming ("Cabaret") and Anthony LaPaglia ("A View From a Bridge") have joined the cast of Doug McGrath and Peter Askin's "Company Man," currently lensing in and around Gotham. Co-written and co-directed by McGrath ("Emma") and Askin ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch"), "Company Man" also stars McGrath, Sigourney Weaver and John Turturro. Set in the 1960s, pic tells the story of a high school grammar teacher who unwittingly finds himself in a plot to overthrow Fidel Castro.
