The Replacements: Brooke Langton (TV's "The Net") has landed the female lead in Warner Bros.' "The Replacements" as Keanu Reeves' love interest. Gene Hackman and Jon Favreau also star in the film, which begins shooting next month in Baltimore, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bait: Kris Kristofferson and Jamie Foxx will play unlikely allies searching for stolen money in "Bait," a drama that starts shooting in September. Kristofferson will play a senior treasury agent who arranges for a prisoner (Foxx) to be paroled and used as bait. Steve Surjik will direct the project, which will be distributed by Warner Bros, Variety reports. Movie Trailers: A trailer for the Albert Brooks/Sharon Stone comedy "The Muse," about a neurotic screenwriter and his modern-day muse. Also a "Three to Tango" trailer. This comedy stars Matthew Perry, Neve Campbell and Dylan McDermott.
Dr. T. and the Women: Liv Tyler and Claire Danes are set to star in Robert Altman's "Dr. T. and the Women" as women in the life of a gynecologist (Richard Gere) in the throes of midlife crisis. The film is slated to begin shooting in November in Texas. Anne Rapp wrote the script, THR reports. Frailty: David Kirschner and Marty Katz have joined to produce Brent Hanley's script "Frailty." The project is out to directors for an early 2000 start date. Described as "Seven" meets "The Shining," the script is a nonlinear psychological horror about a single father of two boys in rural Texas who may or may not be able to identify demons. As the father embarks on a mission to eradicate evil people, one son sees him as a hero, while the other sees Dad as a demon. Thanks to Lazarus. The Mummy 2: THR reports that Universal Pictures and Alphaville Prods. have signed Stephen Sommers to return as writer-director on a sequel to the studio's recent hit "The Mummy." The plan is to have the film in production by next summer with a 2001 release date. "It was Stephen's unique vision for 'The Mummy' that was the driving force behind its success, and we're both very pleased that he will be bringing his talent, imagination and enthusiasm on board for a sequel," Universal Pictures co-chairmen Stacey Snider and Brian Mulligan said.
Rocky VI: Sylvester Stallone will write, direct and star in "Rocky VI." MGM vice chairman Chris McGurk unveiled the project Tuesday morning and said the latest "Rocky" would be a low-cost movie in the style of the original film, which made Stallone a star and picked up a best picture Oscar. The new film is expected to be made for somewhere in the $30 million-plus range, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Follow-Up >>> Diamonds: Variety reports that Brad Pitt and Guy Ritchie ("Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels") look likely to work together on Ritchie's next film, "Diamonds." Pitt is understood to have committed to join the Sony Pictures ensemble heist picture, which also casts "Lock, Stock'' co-stars Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham. The action is set in London's Jewish diamond district. Movie Trailers: A teaser for Luc Besson's newly renamed film "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc." At long last, a trailer for "Teaching Mrs. Tingle," directed by Kevin Williamson. Also a trailer for the drama/comedy "Breakfast of Champions," starring Bruce Willis, Albert Finney and Nick Nolte. Dr. T. and the Women: Richard Gere is set to play a gynecologist in a romantic comedy for veteran director Robert Altman. The film, "Dr. T. and the Women," will start shooting in Dallas on Nov. 15. "Dr. T." is a comedy about a gynecologist undergoing a mid-life crisis who's tested by some unusual events involving the many women in his life. Other casting is under way. Anne Rapp penned the script, Variety reports. X-Men: Ray Park ("Star Wars: Episode I - TPM") will indeed star as evil henchman Toad in Fox's "X-Men." The project begins shooting this fall with director Bryan Singer at the helm. Actor Bruce Davison ("Longtime Companion") has also joined the cast as Sen. Kelly, a powerful opponent of the mutant heroes. Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Dougray Scott, Anna Paquin and Halle Berry also star in the film, which is being produced by Lauren Shuler-Donner and Ralph Winter, THR reports. The Sixth Sense: A poster for the thriller "The Sixth Sense," about an eight-year-old boy who is visited by ghosts. Shaft: Vanessa L. Williams is in talks to star in John Singleton's "Shaft" remake for Paramount. Samuel L. Jackson stars as private eye and sex machine John Shaft in the revival of the 1971 blaxploitation classic. John Leguizamo has signed on as villain Peoples Hernandez, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc: The Unofficial Joan of Arc Site has included info on the title change and trailer for "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc." Thanks to 'Corey.' Charlie's Angels: Music video director McG is in talks to direct Columbia Pictures' big-screen version of "Charlie's Angels" starring Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz. Shooting begins in October, with a summer 2000 release anticipated. Should a deal be struck, McG, 28, will make his feature directorial debut on an updated movie version of the 1970s television series about three glamorous, gun-toting crime-busters. Barrymore and Diaz will play two of the women, and the third is expected to be announced shortly, THR reports. Untitled Wrestling Movie: David Arquette and Rose McGowan has jumped into the ring for an untitled pro wrestling movie at with Warner Bros. Arquette will play one of two wrestling fans who are devastated when their favorite matman is humiliated in the process of losing his championship belt. The hapless pair travel to WCW headquarters in Atlanta and infiltrate the operation to help the grappler regain the championship. Brian Robbins ("Varsity Blues") will direct from a script by Steven Brill ("Mighty Ducks"). Pic is scheduled for an October shoot, Variety reports. The Lord of the Rings: Ian McKellen is set to play iconic wizard Gandalf in New Line's epic fantasy trilogy "The Lord of the Rings." In addition, Ian Holm is in final talks to play Bilbo in the films, which will shoot back to back beginning in October in New Zealand with director Peter Jackson at the helm. In the adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's acclaimed books, McKellen will join Elijah Wood and Sean Astin as the third of four central characters in the series, which follows Frodo Baggins (Wood) and his sidekick (Astin) on a quest to save humanity with a magical ring. Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Stephen Sinclair wrote the first film, "The Fellowship of the Ring," with Jackson and Walsh producing under their WingNut Films banner, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
