June 20th/21st 1998 - Movie News/Rumours

[Armageddon Poster] [SPR Poster]

Movie Poster: Above is a great foreign poster for "Armageddon." Next to it is a much bigger version of the Official Saving Private Ryan poster. A big thanks to "Mike" and Jawad for the images!

Alien 5: MTV News confirmed the news that Sigourney Weaver has signed for a $20 million pay check yesterday. The reason she got so much $ was because she demanded to have the same kind of money male actors have. Thanks to Daniel.

Trixie: Anne Heche ("6 Days, 7 Nights") has committed to play the title character in writer/director Alan Rudolph's next project, "Trixie." The script is about an eccentric, unconventional woman whose naive aspirations to rise from her job as a security guard to full-fledged private eye lead her into a tangled mess.

Untitled Project: New York Yankees pitcher Orlando (El Duque) Hernandez will be the focus of a feature film about to be shopped with Cuba Gooding Jr. ("Jerry Maguire") attached to play Hernandez and Antonio Banderas ("The 13th Warrior") tapped to play his agent Joe Cubas.

Trailers: Two trailers today, first the second "Dr. Dolittle" trailer and second a trailer for the comedy "The Parent Trap."

Being John Malkovich: Catherine Keener ("Out of Sight") will try "Being John Malkovich" opposite John Cusack and the film's title character. The story is about a puppeteer (Cusack) who finds a porthole that leads to Malkovich's brain. Keener will play Maxine, who is the love interest to both Cusack's and Malkovich's characters.

Imaging Nathan: After making his helming debut in "The Blouse Man" for Miramax, actor Tony Goldwyn has signed to direct "Imaging Nathan" for Universal Pictures. The film, written by Gustin Parker, is about a grown man lost in fantasy as a result of a childhood trauma.

X-Files: The Movie: I haven't received many reviews yet, so please send them in, either via E-Mail or using the form on the Submit Scoop page. Next update will be this Monday.

June 18th 1998 - Movie News/Rumours

Alien 5: Cinescape OnLine confirms the rumor I reported a few days back that Sigourney Weaver has signed to reprise her role as Ripley for 20 million dollars. This news was reported by The Daily Mail and should hold water. A script is not yet finished, but Weaver will supposedly help with the scripting duites when a script is in development. I sure hope this is true, since I'm a big fan of the Alien films (even "A:R.") [A cute little alien monster]

Sleepy Hollow: Director Tim Burton is in serious talks to make his next film "Sleepy Hollow," an adaptation scripted by Andrew Kevin Walker of the Washington Irving horror tale. The project is based at Paramount and will be produced by Scott Rudin, sources said. The film will focus on the legend of Ichabod Crane, a professor whose wild theories get him discredited and exiled to an upstate New York hamlet where he happens on a myth come to life of a headless horseman who has taken the heads of four people trying to find one that fits him perfectly.

The Day October Died: Liam Waite hassigned to play the lead in "The Day October Died," opposite William Forsythe, Tom Arnold and Clarence Williams III. Indie pic is being directed by first timer Caesar Cavaricci from his own script, with Alex Giegelin producing. Waite plays a young man forced to confront his past while searching for his father's killer.

Enemy Of The State: A trailer for this upcoming action thriller starring Will Smith and Gene Hackman today. The clip is from Entertainment Tonight and is hosted on the Seinfeldiest page.

Quicktime Enemy Of The State - ET Trailer (9.6 MB)

The Real Inspector Gadget: Joely Fisher ("Ellen") has signed for a major feature role opposite Matthew Broderick in Disney's "The Real Inspector Gadget." Fisher will play Brenda, the surgeon who rebuilds Broderick's Gadget from his accident and turns him into the Real Inspector Gadget so that he can defeat the villain Claw (Rupert Everett). Along the way, she and Gadget fall in love. Director David Kellogg will start shooting July 20 in L.A.

Trick: Tori Spelling ("Scream 2") has signed to play the female lead in the romantic comedy "Trick." The low-budget film revolves around two young gay men who meet in a New York subway station. They encounter a series of comic obstacles in their attempts to find a place to be alone. Spelling will play the best friend of one of the young men.

Untie Me So We Can Cuddle: Hollywood Pictures has picked up Chuck Randolph's romantic comedy pitch "Untie Me So We Can Cuddle" for Jay Roach ("Austin Powers") to direct. Set in a research institute renowned for its studies of human mating behaviors and sexual theories, the project tells the story of a female scientist who decides to perform an experiment on an unsuspecting artist. Despite her statistical knowledge of relationships, she ends up falling for just the sort of man her life has been calculated to avoid.

A Map Of The World: Sigourney Weaver is also in final talks to chart a starring course in "A Map of the World" for producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. Weaver will play a part-time school nurse living on a Wisconsin dairy farm when tragedy strikes twice. First, a 2-year-old girl left in her care by a neighbor accidentally drowns in a pond. Then, she is accused of sexually abusing a little boy who is one of her most frequent patients at the local school.

Armageddon: Click on the image above for a page filled with 20 images from this upcoming action flick. It may take a while to load the page, but it's worth it. I can't thank Countdown enough for the images!

Lake Placid: Bill Pullman ("ID4," "Zero Effect") has bitten into a role as a crocodile-hunting game warden in Phoenix Pictures' "Lake Placid," the company confirmed Tuesday. Oliver Platt and Bridget Fonda are also in final talks to co-star in the picture about the hunt for a giant crocodile that gets loose in a Maine lake.

Saving Private Ryan: The SPR clip that aired on Entertainment Tonight a while back is now available on the net. I haven't seen it, but I hear it's a longer version of the teaser. Thanks to Movie-list for hosting it.

Quicktime Saving Private Ryan - ET Clip (10.0 MB)

Town And Country: Danny Masterson will play the son of Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton in "Town and Country," a romance also starring Gerard Depardieu, Goldie Hawn and Andie MacDowell. Beatty plays a man who, disillusioned with his marriage, endures a number of love affairs before realizing that he truly loves his wife (Keaton). Director Peter Chelsom will start shooting the New Line project toward the end of this month.

The Virgin Suicides: Kirsten Dunst ("Jumanji") and Josh Hartnett will star in the black comedy "The Virgin Suicides," which is being produced by Francis Ford Coppola and directed by his daughter, Sofia. The low-budget indie is about an eclectic group of men who live in an affluent American suburb in the '70s. Their lives are forever changed by their obsession with five doomed sisters. Dunst plays the female lead in the picture.

The image was indeed fan made, click the link for Scream 3 page it is originally from. Scream 3: At the left is a nifty animated Scream 3 image. The source claims it to be a real promo picture, but I have my doubts. Most likely it's just made by a fan, but it still looks very nice. Thanks to "Michael" for the image!

Note From Webmaster: The movie scripts page is not quite ready yet, but it will soon be finished with links to lots of new scripts. Also, I'll be accepting short reviews of "The X-Files: Fight The Future" the next few days, so if you have seen it and would like your opinion to come up here, please send it to me.

There’s been talk of a third Summer, and that’s something I would really have to think about. I don’t want to do horror films forever. I’m much more interested in romance and comedy. I hate watching horror movies, even though I make them." Thanks to The Upcoming Movie List for the alert!
