Bless the Child: Christina Ricci ("The Ice Storm") is in talks to take a small role in Paramount's "Bless the Child" starring Kim Basinger and Jimmy Smits. The supernatural thriller begins shooting at the end of the month in Toronto, THR reports. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut: LegitCrit recently caugh a studio screening of the upcoming South Park film, click below to read his very positive review (minimal spoilers): South Park: BL&U - A Film Review (Positive) The Sixth Day: Roger Spottiswoode ("Tomorrow Never Dies") is in negotiations to direct Arnold Schwarzenegger's next film, the action thriller "The Sixth Day" for Phoenix Pictures and Columbia Pictures. "Day," based on an original screenplay by Cormac and Marianne Wibberley that has been rewritten by John Sayles, centers on a man who returns home one day in the near future, only to discover that he has been replaced by a clone. Phoenix bought the script last year for low- against mid-six-figures. Spottiswoode comes aboard after Joe Dante quietly exited the movie some time ago, THR reports. Tennessee: Disney has brought together producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Michael Bay and screenwriter Randall Wallace for Tennessee, a feature set around the time of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. Wallace (Braveheart) will receive more than $2 million to pen the script. Pic centers on two brothers caught up in the events that drew the United States into WWII. One of the sibs enlists with the U.S. Air Force and the other flies for the RAF; and both brothers get involved with the same woman. Pic draws its title from the U.S.S. Tennessee battleship, which suffered severe damage during the first half-hour of Japanese bombing on December 7, 1941, Variety reports.
The Green Mile: Two new images for Frank Darabont's film "The Green Mile." The first pic includes Tom Hanks and David Morse, and the second is of Michael Duncan ('Bear' in "Armageddon"). Guess Who's President: Chris Tucker ("Rush Hour") will star in"Guess Who's President," in which he'll be playing the chief executive in a comedy he co-wrote with Barryl Quarles. Tucker is working on getting a director for a fall start, expecting that a studio will fall into place shortly, according to Variety. Wild Wild West: Barry Sonnenfeld reports that Warner Bros. executives is to blame for the pre-release sniping. "Basically, we had a test screening for the wrong audience," the "Men In Black" director says. According to Sonnenfeld, his problems began when he requested an early test screening despite studio fears that audience feedback would reach the Internet. "The studio was so afraid that they told the audience they were coming to see a screening of "The Matrix," says Sonnenfeld. American Pie - A Film Review (Positive) Ace in the Hole: Josef Rusnak ("The Thirteenth Floor") is in final negotiations to direct "Ace in the Hole," and Bruce Willis is attached to star in the feature, pending a script rewrite. A fall start date is being eyed for the film, co-financed by Disney and Intermedia. Described as a con-vs.-con caper, "Ace" follows a professional con man recently released from prison who is blackmailed into helping a ruthless Las Vegas casino boss evade an FBI murder investigation. "Ace" is budgeted in the $50 million-$60 million range, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
X-Men: Anna Paquin ("The Piano") has joined the cast of "X-Men." Bryan Singer ("Apt Pupil") directs this feature adaptation of the best-selling Marvel Comics franchise. Paquin will play Rogue, a high school girl with psychic powers who is recruited by the X-Men to help fight their archenemy, Magneto. Among Rogue's attributes is the ability to absorb the powers of anyone she has contact with. Paquin joins Dougray Scott, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen in the 20th Century Fox film, which was scripted by Ed Solomon and Chris McQuarrie. Shooting begins in September, according to Variety. The Invisible Circus: Camilla Belle (Practical Magic") has signed on to Fine Lines The Invisible Circus opposite Cameron Diaz, Jordana Brewster and Blythe Danner in Adam Brooks adaptation of Jennifer Egans novel. Julia Chasman and Nick Wechsler of Industry Entertainment are producing. Movie Trailers: eon magazine has added a trailer for the Van Damme action film "Universal Soldier: The Return." A recent commercial for the wannabe-superheroes flick "Mystery Men." Also a teaser for the Chow Yun-Fat/Jodie Foster starrer "Anna" - which is is the true story of British governess Anna Leonowens, who is employed by the King (Yun-Fat) to look after his many children. Soon after she arrives in this exotic country, Anna finds herself engaged in a battle of wits with the strong-willed ruler.
The Score: Michael Douglas is attached to star in and Frank Oz is attached to direct "The Score," a thriller from Mandalay Pictures. The film tells the story of a gentleman thief who is forced by a younger, more dangerous criminal to take part in one last big score. Lee Rich and Gary Foster are producing from an original script by Daniel Taylor that has been reworked by Ebbe Roe Smith and Kario Salem. Sources said Douglas and Oz are working with Salem to develop the project, THR reports. The Perfect Storm: Mark Wahlberg ("Boogie Nights") is negotiating to star opposite George Clooney in the studio's high-profile drama "The Perfect Storm." Sources said Wahlberg's reps - UTA's David Schiff and Leverage's Stephen Levinson - are talking with Warners about signing the actor to a two-picture deal. "Storm" is based on Sebastian Junger's best-selling story of a fishing boat caught in one of the worst storms in history, and the efforts to send out a rescue mission when the boat went under, according to THR. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Taylor Mumson, a 5 1/2-year-old from St. Louis, Mo., has been cast as Cindy Lou Who opposite Jim Carrey in Imagine Entertainment and Universal Picture's "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Although Molly Shannon and Bill Irwin star as her parents Betty Lou and Lou Lou, it is the relationship between the Grinch and Cindy Lou that provides the heart of the story. Jeffrey Tambor also stars in the film as the Mayor of Whoville, and Christine Baranski plays his wife. Ron Howard is directing "Grinch" with Brian Grazer producing. Peter Seaman and Jeffrey Price wrote the script. Shooting begins in late August with a Thanksgiving release date.
