Dungeons & Dragons: Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of indie "Dungeons & Dragons," the feature adaptation of the fantasy game. Warner Bros. will handle domestic distribution, and J&M Entertainment will manage foreign sales. Produced by Silver Pictures, Sweetpea Entertainment and J&M, "Dungeons" is about a young thief who is caught up in political upheaval and must restore the world to its proper balance. The cast includes Justin Whalin, Zoe McLellan, Marlon Wayans, Lee Arenberg, Thora Birch, Kristen Wilson, Robert Miano and Bruce Payne. Monkey Bone: Variety recently reported that Megan Mullally has joined the cast of Fox Animation Studios Monkey Bone, opposite Brendan Fraser, Bridget Fonda, Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Kattan and Dave Foley. In the live-action/stop-motion feature, Fraser plays a neurotic cartoonist who becomes comatose following a car accident. Trying to outwit Death (Goldberg), he uses a cartoon alter ego, Monkey Bone. Mullally will play Frasers sister. Henry Selick directs from a script by Sam Hamm. Chris Columbus 1492 Pictures is producing. Dinner for Two at the El Cortez: Miramax Films, actor-producer Dustin Hoffman and director Tony Goldwyn, who collaborated on the romance A Walk on the Moon, will reunite for the dramatic comedy Dinner for Two at the El Cortez. Scripted by Jeremy Pikser (Bulworth), pic will be produced by Punch Prods. Hoffman and Jay Cohen, Avnet-Kerners Jon Avnet and Jordan Kerner, and Colleen Camp. Pic, from an original screenplay by Ed Kaplan, was originally in development at Paramount Pictures. Sleepy Hollow - by Andrew Kevin Walker Bless the Child: Jimmy Smits is near a deal to join Kim Basinger in Paramount's supernatural thriller "Bless the Child.'' Smits will play a detective who helps Basinger keep a child out of the hands of a satanist. ''Child'' will be directed by Chuck Russell ("The Mask," "Eraser") and produced by Mace Neufeld. "Bless the Child'' is based on a script by Cliff and Ellen Green that was rewritten by Don Roos and Russell, Variety reports. The Invisible Circus: Blythe Danner ("Forces of Nature") has joined the cast of Fine Line's Cameron Diaz starrer "The Invisible Circus." Danner will play a mother coping with the death of her eldest daughter (Diaz) as her youngest daughter (Jordana Brewster) seeks to unravel her sister's mysterious passing. Writer-director Adam Brooks, who adapted the script from a novel by Jennifer Egan, began shooting last month. The film is produced by Julia Chasman and Nick Wechsler of Industry Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rumor also has it that the film starring Adrian Paul and Christopher Lambert will start shooting in October, 1999, with locations in Ireland, Isle of Man, Paris, New York and Toronto. It also seems that Methos might have a role in the movie, as well." The Venice Project: Director Robert Dornhelm has begun production in Venice, Italy, on comedy "The Venice Project" (tentative title). The film stars Lauren Bacall, Dennis Hopper, Stockard Channing, Stuart Townsend and Linus Roache. Written by Nicholas Klien, "Venice" is about a princess (Bacall) who decides to put on an art show with the colorful characters who attend it, commenting on the state of art and how it will affect centuries to come. Hopper plays Bacall's immature brother from Venice, Calif. Channing plays an art dealer, while Townsend plays a painter. Other starring in the film are Ben Cross as a movie mogul, Victoria Secret model Frederique van der Wal as a depressed actress, Parker Posey as a journalist, Dean Stockwell as an art enthusiast and Cheech Marin, THR reports.

Mystery Men: Universal Pictures has moved up the release date of comedy "Mystery Men" from Aug. 6 to Friday, July 30. Based on the Dark Horse Comic about aspiring superheroes, the film stars Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, William H. Macy, Geoffrey Rush and Greg Kinnear among others, according to THR. Autumn in New York: Joan Chen is negotiating to direct Richard Gere and Winona Ryder in the love story "Autumn in New York." Appropriately, the film is set to begin shooting this fall in Gotham. In the Allison Burnett script, a playboy restaurateur (Gere) falls in love with a young woman (Ryder). Although the man is conflicted and tells her he doesn't commit to long relationships, she eases his mind by telling him she's specifically chosen him for that reason: She's dying, and wants to have one great love affair before the end. Tom Wilkinson ("The Full Monty") has also joined the cast that includes Steve Zahn, Salma Hayek, Jeff Goldblum and Orlando Jones. In the ensemble comedy centering on a heist of priceless coins, Pierce will play Marty Kerner, a smarmy personal assistant to Bollingsworth (Wilkinson). At the same time, he is also having an affair with Bolingsworth's wife, Gina. When Bollingsworth lapses into a coma after an attempted suicide, Marty fears that Gina will lose out on his insurance money and tries to make sure the old man never wakes up again, THR reports.

Captain Corelli's Mandolin: Actor Nicolas Cage is in negotiations with Working Title Films and Universal Pictures to star in "Captain Corelli's Mandolin,'' to be directed by "Notting Hill'' helmer Roger Michell. While a deal has not been finalized, sources said that Cage wants to do the World War II-era love story, which will likely go before the cameras next March in Italy. The film, based on Louis De Bernieres' British novel, is a ''Doctor Zhivago Di-like love story/drama set on the idyllic Greek island of Cephalonia during World War II.
