Rod Steiger

The Last Producer: Rod Steiger has joined the cast of "The Last Producer," starring and directed by Burt Reynolds. Other cast members of the low-budget indie flick include Benjamin Bratt, Robert Costanzo, Lauren Holly, Charles Durning and Ann-Margret. As the title implies, the film is about a Tinseltown producer (Reynolds) in the midst of his celluloid swansong. Steiger portrays a cop that helps Reynolds bring the project to the big screen. Daniel Bigel and Michael Mailer are producing the Kushner-Locke-funded film, which begins shooting this month in Los Angeles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bettie Page Biopic: Martin Scorsese is eyeing the chance to direct Liv Tyler in a biopic of Bettie Page, the country's first kinky pinup girl. The director and star have been enmeshed in talks for several months trying to put together a film, and it appears they will shop it to studios in the near future with Page's life rights part of the package. Considered royalty among cheesecake, Page became an underground cult figure and precursor to such vamping femmes as Madonna because of.. Full Story >>>

Animal Factory: Willem Dafoe ("eXistenZ") is in talks to star in "Animal Factory," the second feature to be directed by actor-director Steve Buscemi. Dafoe would star as a veteran convict who shows a prison newcomer the ropes. "Animal Factory," to be produced by Elie Samaha's Franchise Pictures, is based on a novel by Edward Bunker. The story, which Bunker also scripted, shows how a young man, sent to prison in an unjustly harsh sentence, can become the product of that rough environment. It also deals with his relationship with an older con, who teaches him how to survive, THR reports.

I Went to Date School: Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz could reteam for DreamWorks romantic comedy "I Went to Date School." Sources say both are in discussions to star, with Stiller taking on producing duties as well. "Date" is based on the Mademoiselle article about First Impressions, a New York consulting service that sets up clients on a simulated rendezvous and then critiques their dating skills. Greg Mottola ("The Daytrippers") has been mentioned as a director. There is no final script, with a rewrite to be done from a script by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein. No new writer is attached, but sources say the next draft will be developed with Diaz in mind, according to THR.
