Me Myself and Irene: Traylor Howard ("Dirty Work") has joined the cast of "Me Myself and Irene" starring Jim Carrey and Renee Zelwegger. Pic is the latest from comedic powerhouse Peter and Bobby Farrelly who will write, direct and produce the split-personality comedy. Bradley Thomas will produce with the Farrellys through their Conundrum Entertainment banner. Howard will play Carreys wife, who takes off with a limo driver, prompting her husbands mental breakdown, Variety reports. Ace in the Hole: Bruce Willis is in final negotiations to star in the con-vs.-con caper picture "Ace in the Hole.'' The $50 million-$60 million picture follows Alex Logan, a brilliant professional con man, fresh out of prison, who is blackmailed into helping a ruthless Las Vegas casino boss evade an FBI murder investigation. Disney will distribute in North America. Though a director is not yet attached, the picture is scheduled to go before the cameras this fall, according to Variety. Hannibal: Producer Dino De Laurentiis is near a deal to purchase screen rights to the sequel to "The Silence of the Lambs'' for more than $9 million, the most ever paid for a feature adaptation. The exact purchase price for Thomas Harris' "Hannibal'' remains unconfirmed. None of the parties involved with the negotiations would comment, but the finalization of a deal over the next few days will set in motion a chain of events that will land the property at Universal. Indiana Jones IV: George Lucas mentioned a few words on this project on yesterday's ET, with Thanks to Craig for the info! "We have a script on a new Indiana Jones film. We're going to have to make some changes on it, and do some re-writes, but its been very difficult to get a schedule worked out with Steven who has become very successful and Harrison who has become very successful." Sad Note: According to Empire Online, Liam Neeson has annnounced he is retiring from movie acting. The 46-year-old star, who plays Qui-Gon Jinn in the new Star Wars film, is apparently sick of the way actors are treated in todays Hollywood saying they are nothing more than puppets and calling film a directors medium. Now he says he wants to spend more time with his wife Natasha Richardson and their two kids learning French, doing DIY and fishing. He is also interested in doing more theatre work. It isnt known whether he signed to participate in the next two Star Wars prequels. Teaching Mrs. Tingle: Variety reports that Miramax has changed the name of its upcoming film "Killing Mrs. Tingle,'' but has denied the move had anything to do with last month's Columbine High School massacre. The film, about a plot to kill a high school teacher played by Helen Mirren, is now called "Teaching Mrs. Tingle.'' It is set to open in wide release Aug. 20. Miramax spokesman Andrew Stengel said the company was thinking about the name change long before Littleton, Colo. was anything more than a flyover city. "It's not about killing a teacher. We call it a wicked comedy,'' Stengel said. "It's what 'Nine to Five' was to the working world, 'Teaching Mrs. Tingle' is to school.''
Star Wars: Episode I - TPM: The first batch of advance reviews for 'Episode I' are popping up left and right today. Haven't read any of them myself, but I hear most of them are quite positive, the only complaint was that the movie didn't fully meet some people's gigantic expectations, and others are unsure about their feelings for this new Star Wars adventure. Wars: Episode I - TPM Review, 2, 3, 4 Navy Divers: EW reports that Robert De Niro ("Ronin") and Cuba Gooding Jr. ("As Good As It Gets") are negotiating to team in ''Navy Divers,'' the true story of Carl Brashear, the Navy's first African-American diver. Beat: Adam Goldberg ("Saving Private Ryan") will star as Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Pfilmco and Zuckerman Entertainment's indie production "Beat," a drama about the Beat literary generation written and to be directed by Gary Walkow. Norman Reedus has also been cast in the movie, THR reports. Monsters, Inc.: Variety reports that Pixar Animation Studios will this month start work on "Monsters, Inc.,'' its next computer-animated co-production with Walt Disney Co. The picture is a comedy set in a surreal realm, where chaos ensues after a hapless monster lets a human child into the secret world by mistake. It is tentatively scheduled for release in 2001. Pete Docter and David Silverman are set to direct the picture. Love and Basketball: Omar Epps ("The Mod Squad") is in negotiations to star in New Lines hoopster romance "Love and Basketball." Helmer Gina Prince-Bythewood tackles the story about two basketball-loving kids who discover their talent and love for each other through the game, finally heading off to the NBA. The film takes place over the four quarters of a basketball game. Pic will be produced by Spike Lee and Sam Kitt and exec produced by Andrew Z. Davis. Lensing is skedded to begin in June, according to Variety.

Eyes Wide Shut: Warner Bros. has announced that Stanley Kubricks Eyes Wide Shut has indeed received an R-rating from the MPAA. Kubricks team in London is at work on a trailer, sources said. Warners had been waiting to receive a rating before cutting one. While many had speculated that the films various steamy scenes would warrant an NC-17, senior Warners execs had always insisted that it deserved an R, Variety reports. The Crew: Burt Reynolds and Richard Dreyfuss are getting ready to star in "The Crew." The $25 million picture is about four wiseguys in retirement who get back into Da Business to save their Miami Beach apartment complex from yuppies. Other casting has not yet been announced. Michael Dinner ("Heaven Help Us Di") will direct from a script by Barry Fanaro ("Kingpin Di"). Shooting begins July 9 in Miami. Disney will distribute in North America, according to Variety. Other Side of Simple: New Line Cinema has purchased writer Eric Kmetz's spec screenplay "Other Side of Simple." Gary Goldstein will produce. Described as a character-driven thriller in the vein of "The Usual Suspects," "Simple" follows two thieves who return to their Midwestern hometown after a long absence. David Bales will co-produce the project. Chris Bender, who co-produced Universal Pictures' upcoming "American Pie," will executive produce "Simple," THR reports.
Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin and Mindy Sterling are the latest actors to be cast opposite Jim Carrey in "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" for Imagine Entertainment and Universal Pictures. In the Ron Howard-directed film starring Carrey as the evil Grinch, Baranski will play Martha Who-ert, wife of the mayor of Whoville. Irwin will play Lou Lou Who, husband of Betty Lou Who (Molly Shannon). And Sterling will co-star as one of the Whoville townspeople, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Picking Up the Pieces: Variety reports that Fran Drescher ("The Nanny") has joined the cast of Picking Up the Pieces, an indie ensemble pic being pieced together with sizable names. Drescher will join Woody Allen, Sharon Stone and David Schwimmer; Cheech Marin, Hector Elizondo, Lily Tomlin, Kiefer Sutherland and Elliott Gould are also in talks for the black comedy to be directed by Alfonso Arau. In the script by Bill Wilson, a butcher (Allen) botches a magic trick involving his promiscuous wife (Stone) and winds up hacking her to little bits and heading to Mexico with his cargo. The butcher drops her hand, which becomes a religious relic when a blind woman trips over it and has her sight restored. Paul Sandberg produces.
