You Can Count on Me: Laura Linney (The Truman Show) will star opposite Matthew Broderick in You Can Count on Me, an indie comedy exec produced by Martin Scorcese for the Shooting Gallery. thanks to 'Hawkson' - some new 'Jumanji 2' info: Vertical Limit: Chris O'Donnell has been signed to play the lead in "Vertical Limit,'' an action adventure for Columbia Pictures to be directed by Martin Campbell ("The Mask of Zorro"). O'Donnell was hired by Columbia President Amy Pascal, who has pegged "Limit'' as an event film for release next summer. Robert King (''Red Corner'') wrote the script. O'Donnell will play an ambitious mountain climber who retires and becomes estranged from his sister following a climbing accident that causes the death of their father. Three years later, the climber is forced to lead a rescue mission when his sister and other members of her team become trapped on K2, the second-highest mountain in the world. The film begins shooting in August in New Zealand, Variety reports.

Joel Silver, Kia Jam, Tom Hammel and Solomon produce the pic under the Sweetpea Ent. banner.
Jumanji 2: Five-time visual effects Oscar winner Ken Ralston will make his feature directorial debut with "Jumanji 2," the sequel to Columbia's 1995 film starring Robin Williams. The feature, which is scheduled to begin production later this year, is slated for a Christmas 2000 release. The original feature, which grossed more than $250 million worldwide, featured an ancient magical board game that came to life and wreaked havoc that could only be stopped by finishing the game. The sequel, written by Jonathan Hensleigh, will build upon the concept of the Jumanji game, but will offer a fresh approach. Casting for the sequel has yet to be determined, according to THR. Hannibal: Producer Dino De Laurentiis has zeroed in on Ridley Scott ("Blade Runner") to direct "Hannibal," the sequel to the Oscar-winning thriller "Silence of the Lambs,'' but the hunt for a writer continues. Scott's representatives at Creative Artists Agency are in talks with De Laurentiis aimed at structuring a deal in which Scott would develop "Hannibal'' with whoever is hired to pen the screenplay. Scott was targeted for the job after "Silence of the Lambs'' director Jonathan Demme bowed out a few weeks ago. It's understood that Demme felt the material was too violent and wanted to make changes, which author Thomas Harris would not allow. Thanks to 'Dandaman' and 'Variety.' Urban Legend 2: Winnipeg, Canada is one of the locations being considered for the filming of the $15-million dollar sequel to 'Urban Legend.' L.A. producer Edward Teets said Winnipeg will be considered among only a small handful of other locations. "This city could work for that sequel," said the vice-president for physical production at Phoenix Pictures. At this moment in time, casting hasn't been finalized. Filming is expected to start within 2-3 months. A final decision on location will be made within two weeks. After a day of visiting sights, Teets said it was the "University Of Manitoba" campus that tipped the scale for Winnipeg. "The Movie takes place around a university (in Georgia) and the U of M suits that campus." Thanks to Craig.
Movie Posters: The official poster for 'Inspector Gadget' is now out. The film stars Matthew Broderick, Rupert Everett and Joely Fisher. A poster for the Bill Pullman/Bridget Fonda horror comedy 'Lake Placid,' and also a new one for 'Muppets In Space.' Head Over Heels: Monica Potter ("Patch Adams") has dropped out of Disney's "Mission to Mars" and joined Universal's "Head Over Heels" following Claire Danes' surprising exit, sources confirmed. With Potter aborting "Mission to Mars," Disney's bid to beat Warner Bros. to the first Mars project has suffered a setback. Although scheduling attempts were being made late Friday to keep Potter in both projects, sources said it was unlikely it could be worked out, according to THR. Movie Trailers: The "The Wild Wild West" music video by Will Smith is available online. A trailer for "An Ideal Husband" - which stars Cate Blanchett, Minnie Driver and Julianne Moore. Also a trailer for the Pierce Brosnan film "The Thomas Crown Affair."
Where the Heart Is: THR reports that Ashley Judd will co-star with Natalie Portman in "Where the Heart Is," the directorial debut of "Roseanne" and "Home Improvement" creator Matt Williams. Additionally, Sally Field is in talks to take a cameo role in the film. Judd will portray the best friend of Portman, who will take the role of a pregnant 17-year-old who plans to travel cross-country to California with her boyfriend, but is abandoned by him in an Oklahoma Wal-Mart and makes the store her home. Screenwriting team Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel adapted the screenplay from the best-slling novel by Billie Letts. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace: North American theaters estimated receipts at an impressive $64.8 million during the four-day Memorial Day weekend, bringing the film's 13-day total to a stunning $205 million. The George Lucas film is the fastest to reach the $200 million mark, bettering by eight days the previous record set by Fox's "Independence Day." "Phantom's" four-day cume is second-best on the holiday frame behind Universal's "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," but "Lost World" opened Friday of Memorial Day weekend 1997 while "Phantom" was in release nine days before this year's holiday frame. Percentage comparisons between three-day and four-day frames are not germane, however. That "Phantom's" gross during the weekend roughly equaled its debut during the previous frame attests to an exceptional boxoffice hold, THR reports.
