November 5th/7th 1999 - Movie News/Rumors

Jennifer Aniston

Metal God: Jennifer Aniston ("Friends") is in talks to star opposite Mark Wahlberg ("Boogie Nights") in "Metal God." Variety reports that the Warner Bros. project is based on the true tale of an office supplies salesman who played in a Judas Priest cover band before joining Judas Priest itself. Stephen Herek ("Mr. Holland's Opus") will direct, and George Clooney will produce. "Metal God" is slated to begin production early next year.

Sherlock Holmes and the Vengeance of Dracula: Columbia Pictures has picked up newcomer Michael Valle's spec script "Sherlock Holmes and the Vengeance of Dracula" for Mutual Film Co. to produce. THR reports that Chris Columbus may come on board to develop and direct the project, which is described as an action-adventure-horror film in the vein of "The Mummy."

The Talented Mr. Ripley The Talented Mr. Ripley: A poster for the drama 'The Talented Mr. Ripley.' This film stars Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and Cate Blanchett.

Seven and a Match: Heather Donahue ("The Blair Witch Project") has been cast in "Seven and a Match," an indie ensemble film described as a Gen X "Big Chill." The story concerns a group of high-powered upper-crust twentysomethings who spend a weekend together in a house on Fisher Island. The cast includes Ian Bailey, Tina Holmes, Adam Scott, Scott Openshaw and Daniel Sarafini. First-timer Derek Simonds will direct from his own script. According to Variety, shooting will begin on November 10th on Fisher Island, N.Y.

Meet the Parents: Teri Polo (WB's "Felicity") has landed the female lead opposite Ben Stiller in Universal Pictures/DreamWorks' "Meet the Parents." Polo will play Pam Burns, a real estate agent who brings her fiance Greg (Stiller) home to meet her parents, played by Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner, for the first time on the eve of her sister's wedding. Unfortunately, her father has other plans for Greg. Jay Roach ("Austin Powers") will direct, and Jim Herzfeld ("Meet the Deedles") wrote the script. According to THR, the project is scheduled to begin shooting November 8th in New York.

November 4th 1999 - Movie News/Rumors

Next Friday Magnolia

Movie Posters: A 'Next Friday' poster. This sequel to 'Friday' stars Ice Cube, Mike Epps, John Witherspoon and Don "DC" Curry. Also the official one for the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed drama 'Magnolia.' Thanks to Nlcpub.com.

Tigerland: Variety reports that Joel Schumacher's next film, "Tigerland," will have a total budget of less than $10 million. The film is a gritty ensemble drama about youths combat training for Vietnam. The cast includes Demi Moore, Matthew McConaughey and Irish newcomer Colin Farrell.

Bicentennial Man - Film Review (Positive)

Time Code: 2000: Jeanne Tripplehorn, Kyle MacLachlan, Julian Sands and Stellan Skarsgard have signed on to join Salma Hayek as part of the ensemble cast for Mike Figgis' "Time Code: 2000." Laurie Metcalf, Stephen Weber, Saffron Burrows, Mia Maestro, Alessandro Nivola, Richard Edson, Leslie Mann, Danny Huston, Aimee Graham, Xander Berkeley, Viveka Davis and Golden Brooks have also been cast in the film. "Time Code: 2000," which is a working title, is described as an intense psychodrama set during one day in Los Angeles. THR reports that the project started shooting this week, using improvisational techniques and digital cameras.

Parasyte: Angry Films and Jim Henson Pictures will transform the popular Japanese Manga comic "Parasyte" into a live-action/CGI feature. THR reports that the project will be adapted by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hey. "Parasyte," based on the long-running comic by Hitosi Iwaaki, takes a comic twist on alien invasion: Mysterious seeds fall from the heavens, transforming any creatures they land on into an alien force bent on destroying the world. However, when they land on the left hand of a young man named Mike, he ties off the hand and inadvertently creates Lefty, an alien parasite. While Lefty and Mike are decidedly at cross-purposes, the two are attached and must learn how to live together.

November 1st 1999 - Movie News/Rumors

Michael Rapaport

Numbers: Michael Rapaport has signed on to the comedy "Numbers" for director Nora Ephron. He joins Tim Roth, John Travolta and Lisa Kudrow in the Adam Resnick-penned film about a lottery scam. Rapaport will play a thug for hire, "the Babe Ruth of leg-breakers," according to Variety. Rapaport will begin "Numbers" on November 15th.

Held For Ransom: Morgan Fairchild has joined Dennis Hopper in "Held For Ransom." Variety reports that the teen thriller is based on the novel by Lois Duncan ("I Know What You Did Last Summer") and will be directed by Lee Stanley, who also penned the adaptation. Co-stars include Debi Mazar, Timothy Bottoms and Joan Van Ark. She is repped by Gold Marshak Liedtke. 'Ransom' begins lensing this week in Florida.

Exorcist: Dominion: Tom McLoughlin ("Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives") has signed on to helm "Exorcist: Dominion," a prequel to the 1973 classic. Although no cast has been set, the project is slated to begin production on location in Africa in the spring. Written by William Wisher ("T2"), who based his script on the novel by William Peter Blatty, the prequel traces the story of Father Merrin back to his first encounter with the Devil during his missionary work in Africa, THR reports.
