Silence of the Lambs

Hannibal: Preproduction on "Hannibal" has quietly begun, with shooting tentatively scheduled for a spring start in Florence, Italy. Producer Dino De Laurentiis, director Ridley Scott and set designer Norris Spencer are in Florence this week scouting locations in the Renaissance capital where "Silence of the Lambs" author Thomas Harris has set a substantial portion of his new best-selling thriller "Hannibal." Like "Lambs," "Hannibal" centers on the relationship between brilliant serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter and the young FBI agent who challenges him, Clarice Starling. THR reports that De Laurentiis said Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster would decide if they want to reprise their roles after reading Steven Zaillian's ("Schindler's List") rewrite of David Mamet's draft, which will have a different ending than the book.

100 Girls: Marissa Ribisi ("True Crime") and Katherine Heigl ("Bride of Chucky") have joined the cast of Michael Davis' teen comedy "100 Girls." According to Variety, the film follows a young man's quest to track down the girl he fell in love with in an elevator during a power outage.

Pay It Forward: Kevin Spacey is in final negotiations to star in "Pay It Forward," with director Mimi Leder ("Deep Impact") expected to begin shooting the drama in mid-February on location in Arizona and Los Angeles. The project is based on the novel of the same name by Catherine Ryan Hyde. According to THR, the book revolves around Reuben St. Clair (Spacey), a physically and emotionally scarred social studies teacher who assigns his class to think of an idea for world change and put it into action. One of his students, a young boy whose single mom is struggling with alcohol, takes the assignment to heart by committing random acts of kindness and hopes his idea will catch on. In fact, his concept of doing a favor for someone in advance snowballs into a national phenomenon.

Superman Lives - Script Review (Mixed/Negative)

Charlie's Angels: Lucy Liu ("Ally McBeal") has signed a seven-figure deal to star as the third angel opposite Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz in "Charlie's Angels." According to THR, the casting of Liu follows weeks of intense negotiations to juggle the film shoot with the shooting schedule for "McBeal," and she will be involved in the two projects simultaneously. Principal photography has been moved to a Dec. 6 start.

Family Man: Don Cheadle ("Out of Sight") is set to star in "Family Man," opposite Nicolas Cage and Téa Leoni. The Hollywood Reporter describes 'Family' as a Capra-esque story about a New York investment banker (Cage) who has forsaken love for his career. He wakes up one day to find himself living the life he would have enjoyed had he married his college sweetheart (Leoni). Cheadle plays a hoodlum who "sends" the banker into his new life. As an angel-like character, he becomes the catalyst for Cage to examine his life.
