December 2nd/5th 1999 - Movie News/Rumors

Chris Tucker

Black Knight: Chris Tucker ("Rush Hour") will earn between $13-15 million to star in the time travel comedy "Black Knight." The film tells a "Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court"-like tale of a down-and-out theme restaurant employee who is transported back to medieval times. Variety reports that the project is set for an April start. F. Gary Gray ("Friday") will direct.

Cinderella Man: Miramax is in talks to take the project "Cinderella Man" from Universal in a turnaround deal. The film, scripted by Charlie Mitchell, is the true story about a regular guy who enters the ring out of desperation to feed his family. He becomes a hero of the commonfolk as he battles his way up the ranks. According to Variety, Billy Bob Thornton is rumored to be interested in directing, and Ben Affleck in starring.

Darker Saints: Courtney Love ("Man on the Moon") has landed the starring role in an erotic thriller called "Darker Saints." She will play an FBI forensic expert called in to track a ritualistic serial killer who is targeting hookers in the New Orleans French Quarter. Love will also get a producing credit. According to Variety, the $15 million indie picture is slated to shoot next April in New Orleans and Toronto. No director is yet attached.

One for the Ages: Richard Gere is set to star in New Line's football drama "One for the Ages" for director Mark Pellington ("Arlington Road"). Written by David Murray, "Ages" centers on a college football coach (Gere) who loses his entire team in an airplane crash. The coach then spends the following year trying to return a sense of hope to the community, the families and himself by assembling another team to take to the championship. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a deal is being worked out with hopes for a fall 2000 start date.

December 1st 1999 - Movie News/Rumors

Katie Holmes

The Gift: Katie Holmes ("Go") is in negotiations to star opposite Cate Blanchett in the supernatural thriller "The Gift." THR reports that "Gift," written by Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Epperson, is set in a small Arkansas town and tells the story of a woman with ESP (Blanchett) who is asked to help find a young woman (Holmes) who has disappeared. Holmes would shoot the film concurrently with her WB series. The project begins shooting next month with Sam Raimi ("A Simple Plan") at the helm.

The Leni Riefenstahl Project: Jodie Foster will topline "The Leni Riefenstahl Project." Ron Nyswaner ("Philadelphia") will pen the screenplay about the controversial German filmmaker. “There is no other woman in the 20th century who has been so admired and vilified simultaneously,” Foster said. Diamonds: Coming Soon! recently scored an exclusive interview with Allan Aaron Katz, writer of the upcoming movie "Diamonds" starring Kirk Douglas, Dan Aykroyd and Jenny McCarthy. The film is about an ex-prizefighter (Douglas), who goes on a search for 13 diamonds with his son (Aykroyd) and his grandson. Read the full interview here. Thanks to Mirko!

Anti-Trust: Tim Robbins ("Arlington Road") is in talks to star opposite Ryan Phillippe ("Cruel Intentions") in the thriller "Anti-Trust." According to the Hollywood Reporter, Robbins would portray a Bill Gates-like figure who is covert and corrupt in his style of handling antitrust problems, with Phillippe playing the role of the unlucky computer programmer who discovers his dream job has some distinctly nightmarish aspects.

Angel Eyes: After months of negotiations and miscommunications, Jennifer Lopez is again set to star in the romantic thriller "Angel Eyes" for director Luis Mandoki. Her paycheck will be $7.5 million. Gerald DiPego (“Phenomenon”) penned the story of a female police officer working through a history of sexual abuse by befriending a man coming to grips with the death of his wife and son. Variety reports that "Eyes" is targeted for an April start.

November 30th 1999 - Movie News/Rumors

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Collateral Damage: Arnold Schwarzenegger has committed to star in the thriller "Collateral Damage" for director Andrew Davis ("The Fugitive"). According to The Hollywood Reporter, negotiations are expected to begin today. "Damage," based on Ron Roose's spec script and rewritten by Peter and David Griffiths, tells the story of a man who goes after the terrorist who murdered his wife and child in a bombing. Shooting is slated to begin June 1st, and after that Arnold will begin work on either "True Lies 2" or "Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze."

Charlie's Angels: Bill Murray is yet again back in talks for the role of John Bosley in Columbia Pictures' "Charlie's Angels." THR states that reps for the actor have resumed negotiations for Murray to star in the project. Originally slated for a December 6th, it has been pushed back a month to accommodate the principals' schedules.

Bedazzled: Brendan Fraser ("The Mummy") will be paid $10 million to star in a Fox remake of the 1967 Dudley Moore comedy "Bedazzled." Variety reports that the original film concerned a short-order cook (Moore), who the devil (Peter Cook) saves from suicide and then tempts with an offer of seven wishes in exchange for his soul. Stanley Donen directed from a script by Moore and Cook. Fraser will play the cook, and Fox is looking for the devil. Filming will begin in January, with Harold Ramis ("Analyze This") directing. Fraser will also drop out of the romantic comedy "The Wedding Planner."

Keanu Reeves [in 'The Matrix']

Sweet November: Keanu Reeves is in final talks to star in a remake of the 1968 film "Sweet November." According to Variety, the original film starred Anthony Newley as a Gotham-based tycoon who falls for a girl (Sandy Dennis) who insists on taking a new lover each month because she is dying. The Warner Bros. update will be directed by Pat O'Connor ("Circle of Friends"), with production to begin February 28th.

Pay It Forward: Haley Joel Osment ("The Sixth Sense") is in final negotiations to star opposite Kevin Spacey in "Pay It Forward." Written by Leslie Dixon from a novel of the same name by Catherine Ryan Hyde, "Pay It Forward" tells the story of a physically and emotionally scarred social studies teacher (Spacey) who assigns his class to think of an idea for world change and put it into action. One of his students, a boy (Osment) whose single mom is struggling with alcohol, takes the assignment to heart by committing random acts of kindness and hopes his idea will catch on. THR reports that the drama is expected to begin shooting in Arizona and Los Angeles mid-February with director Mimi Leder at the helm.
