Ghostbusters III: Dan Aykroyd was recently interviewed on Access Hollywood, where he discussed the current state of 'Ghostbusters III.' It seems that Columbia doesn't want to produce a third installment. For more information, check out Ghostbusters Central's news section. You can also view the full Real Video clip here. Thanks to 'Chad.' Dexterity: Ashley Judd ("Double Jeopardy") is in final negotiations to topline the romantic drama Dexterity. Matthew McConaughey ("EDtv") is also understood to be in talks to star. Variety reports that the pic is about a couple working in a decaying industrial town located in upstate New York. Their relationship and way of life are both altered when the factory in which they both work goes belly up. Dexteritys budget is described as being modest.
Prime Gig: Julia Ormond will join Vince Vaughn and Ed Harris in the dark comedy "Prime Gig." THR reports that he movie follows a soon-to-be laid-off telemarketer who undertakes a quixotic search for the perfect phone job. Screenwriter William Wheeler developed the script at the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. Veteran stage director Gregory Mosher makes his feature helming debut on the film, which begins shooting next week in Los Angeles. Fishing for Moonlight: Keanu Reeves is attached to "Fishing for Moonlight." According to Variety, the film will be based on the true story of a stockbroker whose life is destroyed when he frees a prostitute from the Russian mafia. After a finished script is turned in, producers are hoping to ready the film for Reeves before he leaves for Australia next fall to shoot back-to-back sequels to The Matrix. Fishing is based on an article Daniel Jeffreys wrote for the London Times about a stockbroker who visits a brothel boasting Russian beauties and finds himself in a room with a young immigrant who is clearly terrified. The stockbroker eventually decides to save the girl.
Terminator 3 & 4: Variety
reports that producers Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna are
planning to simultaneously develop the third and fourth
installments of the Terminator series. They
intend to film Terminator 3 next year for
release in 2001 and prep the fourth shortly thereafter.
T3 will be written by Tedi Sarafian
("Metalheads"), while T4 will be
written by David Wilson ("Supernova,
Rollerball" remake). I don't know if you
can ever equal the first two films, because James Cameron
(who will not return) is a genius, but we're going to do
our best, use the best special effects houses, and really
surprise people with the creative stories that are great
and have the twists and turns the audience expects,
said Kassar. He also holds out hope that Schwarzenegger
might return: Id love for Arnold to be in it,
but we're not at that point yet." Lindbergh: Menno Meyjes (The Color Purple, "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade") will adapt Lindbergh, A. Scott Berg's Pulitzer Prize-winning bio of Charles A. Lindbergh, as a directing outing for Steven Spielberg. More >>> Doctor Strange: Master of the Mystic Arts: Columbia Pictures has acquired the feature rights to Marvel Comics' "Doctor Strange: Master of the Mystic Arts" and is fast-tracking the property as a potential live-action franchise. Don Murphy (of Columbia-based Angry Films) will produce. Thanks to Stax. Trust Me: Jennifer Love Hewitt is in talks to star in and produce the Warner Bros. romcom "Trust Me." Mitchell Kapner ("The Whole Nine Yards") wrote the script. According to THR, "Trust" tells the story of a bumbling young FBI trainee (Hewitt), attempting to work undercover, who finds herself kidnapped by a mobster who ends up falling in love with her. The film is expected to start shooting in Montreal this spring. No director is attached.
End of Days: A sneak peek at 'End of Days,' which opens (worldwide?) November 24th. Minor spoilers. Thanks to 'Brian' over at The Cinema Files. End of Days - Film Review (Positive) River Road: New Line has made a deal worth about $3 million for the writing and directing services of Andrew Niccol ("Gattaca") on River Road, his new spec script. Described by THR as a heroic escape story set in a fictional border town, "River Road" is said to be a powerful allegory about the triumph of the human spirit over oppressive borders, both physical and symbolic. Galaxy Quest: A trailer for this sci-fi/comedy is now online. Thanks to Jawad. Be sure to check out his Galaxy Quest site.
Star Wars: Episode II: StarWars.com reports that George Lucas is still working on the script for the next film, and the start of general casting is still several months away. Several actors are already clearing their schedules to be available for filming in Australia and on location next summer. Among them, is Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks), Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Natalie Portman (Queen Amidala). Fothermuckers: MTV Films has acquired the comedy spec script "Fothermuckers," written by Shaina Carol. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the script centers on an uptight 21-year-old whose outrageously sexy mother has a torrid affair with his slacker best friend. Traumatized, he goes to the most extreme lengths to stop the "Fothermucker." "On the surface, this is a story about young, perverse lust. But on another level, it's about the stripping away of illusions that accompany the transition to adulthood," Carol said.
Movie Posters: A poster for 'Fantasia 2000,' which is an update of the classic Disney musical. Also one for the drama 'Flawless,' starring Robert De Niro and Philip Seymour Hoffman. A Knight's Tale: Columbia Pictures shelled out an estimated $5 million to Brian Helgeland ("Payback") to direct and produce from his spec script "A Knight's Tale." 'Tale' has been described as an action-adventure-romance set in the medieval world of jousting. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Helgeland will produce "A Knight's Tale" with Tim Van Rellim ("Ravenous"). Frequency: A review of the James Caviezel/Dennis Quaid thriller 'Frequency.' Thanks to Moviefreak. Some spoilers are included. Frequency - Film Review (Positive) Hannibal: The AP recently reported that Jodie Foster refuses to star in the sequel to "Silence of the Lambs" because it's too grisly and isn't true to FBI agent Clarice Starling, the character Foster played in the first movie. SPOILER: In "Hannibal," Starling becomes a cannibal like the title role Hannibal Lecter. /SPOILER. "I stand to make more money doing that sequel than I've ever made in my life," Foster says in the December issue of "W" magazine. "But who cares, if it betrays Clarice - who is a person, in some strange way, to me. "The movie worked because people believed in her heroism. I won't play her with negative attributes she'd never have." Follow-ups: 1 - 2.
