October 22nd/24th 1999 - Movie News/Rumors

Harrison FordMichelle Pfeiffer

What Lies Beneath: A very nice report for the thriller "What Lies Beneath." To read the story spoilers, simply sweet across that area with your mouse. A huge thanks to 'Templer.'

....Templer here. Just wanted to pass along some information I just learned about next summer's "What Lies Beneath."

There has been questions recently concerning the release date of next year's Robert Zemeckis horror/thriller "What Lies Beneath." The pic has been rumored to be a Memorial Day release, an Independence Day release and most recently a late-July 2000 release.

Well, in an article printed in the Vermont publication The Press Republican, reporter Lohr Mckinstry recently visited the Dreamworks set while filming was taking place on top of a bridge above Lake Champlain, and received word from one of the producers that the release date of this Harrison Ford starrer is set for June 28, 2000 (July 4th Weekend).

The scene that was being filmed was a major stunt piece involving Harrison Ford's character's 1st wife going over the side of the bridge in a pickup truck.

Also mentioned in the article is that the filming in Vermont in now completed. There will be a couple of scenes shot across the lake in New York, and then the production will move back to Los Angeles for the remainder of the Prin. Photography.

Prin. Photography for this film should be completed sometime in the beginning of November.

The plot has also changed considerably from the earlier 1st-draft version of writer/actor Clark Gregg's script.

The story -
It's about Norman (Harrison Ford) & Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer) who have recently married. Ford's a genetics professor in a small Vermont College, and Pfeiffer is his housewife. Norman's 1st wife was murdered mysteriously and no one was ever brought to justice for the crime. Her body resides somewhere at the bottom of Lake Champlain. Her soul (or ghost) starts to posses the mind and body of Pfeiffer's Claire, and strange things start happening very quick.

The dead wife seeks Claire's help because she is bent on bringing to light the true cause of her death

History Is Made at Night End of Days

Movie Posters: A poster for the romcom 'History Is Made at Night,' starring Bill Pullman and Irène Jacob. Also the official one for Arnold Schwarzenegger's action/thriller 'End of Days.' Thanks to Mika.

Anti-Trust: Ryan Phillippe ("Cruel Intentions") has inked to star in the MGM thriller "Anti-Trust," at a price tag of $1 million. Phillippe will play a computer programmer whose dream job at a Silicon Valley firm turns nightmarish when he discovers his boss has a secret and ruthless means of dispatching antitrust problems. The film will begin production on January 5th (2000) with Peter Howitt ("Sliding Doors") directing. Howard Franklin ("Someone to Watch Over Me") penned the script, Variety reports.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Gary Ross ("Pleasantville") has signed on to direct Warner Bros.' big-budget adaptation of Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" from a story adaptation being penned by Scott Frank ("Out of Sight"). Ross and Frank have had several meetings about the project, which marks their first teaming after years of mutual admiration. This latest film adaptation is expected to follow Dahl's book closely. The filmmakers have been talking with Dahl's widow about the project, which has no start date, according to THR.

The Sixth Day: Michael Rapaport ("Deep Blue Sea") and Sarah Wynter ("Species 2") are set to star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the futuristic action/thriller "The Sixth Day." Arnie plays a man who discovers one day that he has been replaced by a clone. Rapaport will play his best friend, a disheveled bachelor. Though Wynter plays the female lead, it is not exactly as a romantic interest, but rather as an assassin assigned to off Schwarzenegger's character. Roger Spottiswoode ("Tomorrow Never Dies") will be directing the Phoenix/Columbia project, according to Reuters.

Brad Pitt

To the White Sea: Brad Pitt ("Fight Club") is attached to star in "To the White Sea" for Joel and Ethan Coen. The $60 million project, based on James Dickey's novel, is set during WWII after the bombing of Tokyo, when an American tail gunner is shot down over Japan and is forced to embark on an epic journey across Asia to return home, Reuters reports.

The Black Knight: F. Gary Gray ("The Negotiator") and Chris Tucker ("Rush Hour") are in talks to direct and star, respectively, in the comedy "The Black Knight." "Knight" won out over several projects Tucker has been considering since his last film "Rush Hour." Screenwriter Darryl Quarles supposedly penned the spec script about a down-and-out theme restaurant employee who is transported back to medieval times with Tucker or Chris Rock in mind, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Basic Instinct II: Variety reports that MGM is still planning to make "Basic Instinct II." Aside from a script, few elements of the sequel are in place. Studio president Michael Nathanson said the casting aim is to "create our own star with the brand of 'Basic Instinct." Ashley Judd ("Double Jeopardy") is interested, Nathanson confirmed, but a lesser-known actress is more likely to get the main role. Given the absence of Stone and original co-star Michael Douglas, MGM executives say they may change the title. A possible new title is "Risk Addiction."

Unbreakable: Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan ("The Sixth Sense") has landed a record-breaking $5 million deal for his new script, "Unbreakable." Disney will pay Shyamalan another $5 million to direct the film, which begins production in April for a Thanksgiving 2000 release. Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson are set for the lead roles. "Unbreakable'' is a suspense thriller with supernatural overtones. While the script is a closely guarded secret, it's rumored to revolves around a man (Willis) who learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating accident. The film will shoot in Shyamalan's home turf of Philadelphia, where he also shot "Sixth Sense." Full Story >>>
