Anna and the King

Anna and the King: A poster for "Anna and the King." In the film, British governess Anna Leonowens (Jodie Foster) is employed by the King (Chow Yun-Fat) to look after his many children. Soon after she arrives in Thailand, Anna finds herself engaged in a battle of wits with the strong-willed ruler.

Little Nicky: Patricia Arquette will play the love interest of Adam Sandler's character in New Line Cinema's comedy "Little Nicky." In "Nicky," Sandler plays the role of a devil visiting New York in search of his runaway brother. The film is slated for a November 3rd start in New York, with Steven Brill at the helm, THR reports.

The Core: Director Peter Hyams ("End of Days," "Outland") is in final negotiations to direct “The Core” for Paramount Pictures. Producer David Foster ("The Thing") is developing a draft with co-producers Sean Bailey and Cooper Layne, the latter of the which also penned the initial draft of “Core.” The sci-fi thriller centers on a group of 'terranauts' recruited to correct a potentially planet-crushing flaw in the Earth's core, caused by a chemical waste reaction. Untitled: Columbia Pictures have picked up an untitled action pitch from scribe Stephen Cornwell for Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Stan Winston to produce. The story line is set in the 19th Century and revolves around an alien life form who remained dormant on Earth for centuries before one day being unleashed on society. Although there is no script, THR reports that the studio is said to be eyeing the project as a possible "event" pic, with Oscar-winning makeup/visual effects artist Winston designing the creature.

Steven Spielberg

If Only It Were True: DreamWorks SKG have paid an estimated $2 million+ for the rights to Marc Levy's novel "If Only It Were True." Steven Spielberg will produce and possibly direct this romantic comedy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ron Bass ("Entrapment") is likely to adapt.

The Pledge: THR reports that Jack Nicholson will star in, and Sean Penn will direct "The Pledge." "Pledge" is a 1950s-era crime drama based on a novel by critically acclaimed Swiss author Friedrich Durrenmatt and adapted by Jerzy Kromolowski and Mary Olson-Kromolowski. Principal photography is expected to start February 2000.

Loser: Variety reports that Thomas Sadoski will make his feature debut alongside Jason Biggs (“American Pie”), Greg Kinnear (“Mystery Men”) and Mena Suvari (“American Pie”) in Amy Heckerling’s college comedy “Loser." The story centers on an oh-so-unpopular freshman (Biggs) who is harassed by his fellow students. Sadoski plays a hostile roommate, and Suvari plays a student who’s got eyes for her professor (Kinnear).

Eye of the Beholder Girl, Interrupted

Movie Posters: A poster for the thriller/comedy 'Eye of the Beholder.' In the film, private detective 'The Eye' (McGregor) is hired to follow a woman (Judd) across the country. He soon begins to suspect that she may in fact be a serial killer. Also one for the Winona Ryder/Angelina Jolie drama 'Girl, Interrupted.'

The Sixth Day: Michael Rooker ("Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer") has joined the cast of the Arnold Schwarzenegger action/thriller "The Sixth Day." Cormac and Marianne Wibberley's script centers on a man (Schwarzenegger) who returns home one day to discover that he has been replaced by a clone. Rooker will play the leader of a group assembled to hunt down and kill Schwarzenegger's character. Director Roger Spottiswoode is expected to start shooting the film this December in Vancouver, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Family Man: Jeremy Piven ("Very Bad Things") is set to join Nicolas Cage in Beacon/Universal’s “Family Man” for helmer Brett Ratner (“Rush Hour”). David Diamond and David Weissman’s script centers on a fast-lane investment broker (Cage) who is offered the opportunity to see how the other half lives, waking up to find that his sports car and girlfriend have become a minivan and a wife. Piven will play his suburbanite best friend. Shooting begins in December, Variety reports.

Buying the Cow: THR reports that Bridgette Wilson ("Mortal Kombat") has signed on to star opposite Jerry O'Connell ("Scream 2") in Destination Films' romantic comedy "Buying the Cow." Directed and co-written by screenwriter-novelist Walt Becker ("Link"), "Cow" is the story of a commitment-phobic man (O'Connell) who frantically hits the dating scene after his girlfriend (Wilson) starts pressuring him to pop the question. Peter Nelson co-scripted. Shooting is expected to start November 9th in L.A.
