Spooky House: Ben Kingsley and Mercedes Ruehl are set to star in the indie feature "Spooky House." Described as a family Halloween film, Kingsley will play a famous magician turned embittered recluse, who has become the subject of many legends invented by the town's children. When five youngsters sneak into his house, they become the targets of his 'booby traps,' but end up learning the value of friendship and take on teenage bullies led by a chain-smoking crime queen (Ruehl). New Blood: Nick Moran ("Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels") will next star in the crime drama "New Blood," alongside John Hurt. John Hurst ("Project Assassin'') will direct the low-budget project, which begins shooting in Toronto on November 18. All the Rage: Joan Allen ("Face/Off") has signed to star oposite Gary Sinise and Jeff Daniels in "All the Rage,'' an indie drama about a group of people whose lives are changed forever by guns. Andre Braugher and Anna Paquin also star in the project, which will shoot in Los Angeles early next year. Jim Stern will direct from a script by Keith Reddin. 50 Violins: Aidan Quinn ("Practical Magic") has taken the male lead in "50 Violins,'' a drama starring Meryl Streep and Gloria Estefan, directed by Wes Craven. Streep plays Roberta Tsavares, who taught classical violin to inner-city kids with great success. The film is from a script by Pamela Gray and based on Miramax's Oscar-nominated documentary "Small Wonders.'' Quinn plays a former high school friend who becomes the violin teacher's lover, and introduces her to the Harlem school where she hatches the program. "It's an incredible story of one person overcoming great odds, and I'd been interested in it for some time,'' said Quinn. While You Were Out: Universal Pictures and DreamWorks acquired rights to first-time novelist's WHILE YOU WERE OUT for mid-against high-six figures. This romantic-comedy tells the story of a woman's therapist suffers from a heart attack and must recouperate in the hospital--so he hires a contractor to renovate his office while he is out, and this woman continues to visit the office and pour her heart and troubles out on the contractor who eventually falls in love with her. Alex "Bill & Ted" Winter will write and direct the film, which begins shooting Monday in New York. The thriller, budgeted at about $6 million, centers on struggling artist Nicholas Parker (Thomas) who finds himself in close proximity to a mysterious string of macabre murders, the elements of which begin to implicate him. Star Wars Episode 1: Mr. Showbiz reports that the long-awaited trailer for George Lucas' Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace has gotten delayed again. Word from 20th Century Fox is that vice-chairman Tom Sherak wanted the 'Phantom' trailer to make its debut as an attachment to The Siege. But Lucas ended up fiddling with the trailer footage and effects for so long that the Siege deadline came and went. A source said: "Lucas is his own bird. They can't push him too hard. He considers the trailer tantamount to a preview of the film, the first big peek at it. He can't leave it alone. He can't stop saying, 'What if we went back and added this? What if we do this?'" Sherak's comment was: "It's getting ready." Editors Note: I'm really sorry about this delayed update. It was ready early yesterday (Saturday), but due to some FTP problems, I couldn't upload it. Here it is now, though.

Kelly in the drama, written by Greg Poirier, Roger Kumble and Theresa Rebeck, about prank that goes out of control. When a group of college students deliberately plant a rumor, it escalates into a web of betrayal and revenge. Cruise is adapting his standard deal to join "Magnolia,'' which is a series of vignettes set in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. "From Hell,'' based on a 10-part series of graphic novels by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell, focuses on the investigation of the infamous London killings by Scotland Yard detective Frederick Abberline.
