John Carpenter's Vampires

Love Story: Jennifer Love Hewitt has signed a deal to produce and star in an untitled feature dubbed "a 'Love Story' for the '90s.'' The project, set up at Columbia Pictures, was described as the story of a young woman who learns she has only a few months to live. As she begins living out her dreams, she falls in love.

Gossip: Goldie Hawn's daughter Kate Hudson is in final negotiations to co-star in "Gossip." The film is about a group of college students who are given an assignment to plant a piece of gossip and chronicle its ramifications. Hudson will portray one of the two victims of the planted rumor, which has tragic consequences. Marisa Coughlin also is expected to join the cast.

Trailers: A variety of trailers today, the official "Babe: Pig In The City" trailer, one for the Ben Stiller/Elizabeth Hurley film "Permanent Midnight," one for "A Simple Plan" starring Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton, one for the Ian McKellen/Brendan Fraser starrer "Gods And Monsters" and finally a trailer for "Living Out Loud" starring Holly Hunter.

The Limey: Amelia Heinle ("At Satchem Farm") is close to a deal to join the cast of the indie crime thriller "The Limey." Heinle will play Adhara, the jaded girlfriend of Peter Fonda, the picture's villain. Director Steven Soderbergh ("Out of Sight") begins shooting in early October. Terence Stamp, Lesley Ann Warren and Ann-Margret also star.

Paradise Falls: Closing in on his first feature film, music video director Mark Romanek is set to direct the afterlife thriller "Paradise Falls" for DreamWorks. Written by Darren Lemke, "Paradise Falls" is set in a noir world of heaven and hell. It revolves around a fallen angel who must solve the murder of heaven's top angel, or else paradise will collapse.

The Castle: DreamWorks has bought writer David Scarpa's action pitch "The Castle." The project, a possible starring vehicle for George Clooney, concerns a five-star general who is convicted of a capital crime. Sent to the military's only maximum security prison (known as "the castle"), he turns the convict population into his own 1,200-man army and threatens to take the prison by storm.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Universal and Imagine Films have landed "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" for a live-action feature with Ron Howard directing, with Jim Carrey ("The Truman Show") attached to star.

Pluto Nash: Eddie Murphy is set to star in Castle Rock's futuristic comedy "Pluto Nash," playing the owner of a nightclub located on the moon. "Pluto" will be produced by Martin and Michael Bregman. Martin Bregman has been attached to the project since it was written in the early 1980s by Neil Cuthbert. Pic was set up at Universal for several years.

Michael Rooker

The Bone Collector: Michael Rooker ("Cliffhanger") has signed for a small role in the Denzel Washington thriller, "The Bone Collector." Washington plays a quadriplegic police officer who teams with a female detective (Angelina Jolie) to track down a serial killer. Rooker plays Howard Cheney, head of crime services and Jolie's superior. Queen Latifah and Ed O'Neill also co-star. Philip Noyce is directing the Universal Pictures project, which is based on the novel by Jeffrey Deaver.

American Beauty: Kevin Spacey ("A Bug's Life") is in negotiations to star in DreamWorks black comedy "American Beauty,'' which marks the film-directing debut of Broadway veteran Sam Mendes. Spacey's character decides to liberate himself from a boring job and a loveless marriage, transforming himself into a buff, confident hunk - but the lives of those around him unravel, with tragic consequences.

Guy Gets Kid: Joey Lauren Adams ("Chasing Amy") is set to star in Columbia Pictures' Adam Sandler comedy "Guy Gets Kid." The picture tells the story of a cynical slacker who tries to find some fulfillment when his best friend gets married. He then adopts a 6-year-old boy and gets more than he bargained for.

The Limey: Steven Soderbergh has assembled veterans Peter Fonda, Terence Stamp, Lesley Ann Warren and Ann-Margret for his next picture, "The Limey," a $10 million indie gangster thriller Stamp plays an Englishman, Wilson, who arrives in Los Angeles to avenge his daughter's murder and finds himself drawn into a world of glitz and crime. Fonda plays the lead antagonist. Warren plays Elaine, an acting teacher who helps Wilson. Ann-Margret is still in negotiations.

The White Hotel: Yugoslavian director Emir Kusturica is stepping up preparations for his English-language project "The White Hotel.'' Budgeted at around $35 million, the effects-laden surreal drama is set mainly between the two world wars. It centers on a young woman whose bouts of physical pain bring on feverish, hallucinatory dreams about a mysterious white hotel. These dreams contain a coded key - unlocked during analysis - to understanding both her past and her future. Full Story >>>

Psycho

Chill Factor: Cuba Gooding Jr. ("Jerry Maguire") is in negotiations to star opposite Skeet Ulrich in "Chill Factor,'' about two men who must keep a highly toxic substance below 50 degrees, or risk disastrous contamination. Hugh Johnson is directing from a script by Mike Cheda and Drew Gitlin.

Harlem Aria: Paul Sorvino will star in "Harlem Aria," an indie film that began production recently in New York. Kirsten Wilson has also been added to a cast that includes Damon Wayans, Gabriel Cas-seus, Christian Camargo, Edye Byrde, Malik Yoba and Victoria Dillard. The film is a fairy tale about a young, handicapped man who dreams of becoming an opera singer.

Lost Souls: British actor Ben Chaplin ("Washington Square") has been set to co-star with Winona Ryder in New Line Cinema's "Lost Souls," the directing debut of cinematographer Janusz Kaminski. The film is described as a supernatural thriller about a devout young woman who must convince a skeptical prosecutor that he is the target of a conspiracy to enable the devil to walk the earth.

Another Day in Paradise: Trimark Pictures has acquired North American rights to photographer-turned-filmmaker Larry Clark's second feature, "Another Day in Paradise,'' for a low seven figures. James Woods and Melanie Griffith play a couple who try to create a family with two street waifs (played by Natasha Gregson Wagner and Vincent Kartheiser) - with tragic results.

Boiler Room: Ben Affleck is in talks to star as an aggressive Yuppie stockbroker in Artisan Entertainment's "Boiler Room." The project concerns the high-pressured world of Wall Street "boiler rooms," where young stockbrokers peddle highly dubious stock to unsuspecting buyers. Sources said that negotiations over Affleck's involvement are not focused on the lead role of Seth, a college dropout who descends into the world of corrupt stock trading. "Boiler Room" will be helmed by newcomer Ben Younger, who also penned the screenplay.
