September 25th/26th 1999 - Movie News/Rumors

Dogma

Dogma: The official site added the poster above a little while back. Thanks to 'Michael,' 'Aleria' and 'Martin Nehring.'

Bodyguard 2: VG reports that Kevin Costner is in the process of penning the script these days. He would not comment on whether or not Whitney Houston will return. "So far I've written 40 good pages of the «Bodyguard 2» script. When I've written the whole story, the movie shouldn't be far away," Costner said.

The Kid: Bruce Willis ("The Sixth Sense") is set to star in Jon Turteltaub’s next film “The Kid.” “Kid,” penned by Audrey Wells (“The Truth About Cats and Dogs”), is slated to go into production in January and will be released during the summer. Turteltaub and his Disney-based Junction Entertainment partner, Christina Steinberg, developed the script with Wells over a two-year period and will co-produce the pic. Full Story >>>

Cutaway: Tom Berenger, Stephen Baldwin and Dennis Rodman will take to the skies in the indie skydiving thriller, "Cutaway." Guy Manos (a world championship skydiver who served as skydiving unit director on "Drop Zone'' and "Eraser") will direct from a script he co-wrote with his brother Greg. Baldwin plays a U.S. customs agent who goes deep cover into the world of skydiving, where drug smugglers (Berenger and Rodman) use parachutes to sneak their illegal shipments into Miami. Production begins in Miami in late October. Thanks to 'Gus.'

Men In Black 2: Popcorn.co.uk was running an audio interview with Tommy Lee Jones earlier today, where he admits that he'd appear in a sequel to 'Men In Black,' but nobody has asked him. They also speculate about the current status of the project as a result. You can hear the story at this site. Thanks to 'Peter.'

Three Kings: A look at the Gulf War comedy/drama "Three Kings" with thanks to 'Brian.'

Three Kings - Film Review (Positive)

Barbarella: Warner Bros. recently acquired rights to remake “Barbarella” and is negotiating for Drew Barrymore to take on the role. Barrymore has long been interested in doing a remake of the 1968 sci-fi film, which Roger Vadim directed as a campy adaptation of the racy cult comic strip by Jean-Claude Forest. The remake will drop the camp factor and stay faithful to the edgy comic strip. Full Story >>>

Along Came a Spider: Lee Tamahori is nearing a deal to direct “Along Came a Spider,” the prequel to the thriller “Kiss the Girls.” “Spider” is being produced by the original co-producers: David Brown’s Manhattan Project and Joe Wizan’s Phase One Prods. It'll be based on James Patterson’s 1993 thriller of the same name, and Marc Mosspenned the script. Morgan Freeman will reprise his role as Dr. Alex Cross, a Washington, D.C., criminal psychologist and detective. This time, the good doctor must find two kidnapped girls before a serial killer does them in. The film looks set for a January start, according to Variety.

Fight Club Mystery, Alaska

Movie Posters: The official posters for "Fight Club" and "Mystery, Alaska" with thanks to 'Bill McAlpine.'

What Lies Beneath: Cinescape Online reports that Rachel Singer ("8MM") has joined the cast of “What Lies Beneath,” starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer.

102 Dalmatians: Variety reports that Gerard Depardieu is in talks to star opposite Glenn Close in Disney's "102 Dalmatians." Depardieu will play Monsieur LePelt, who works in tandem with Cruella DeVille (newly let out of jail) in her dogged attempts to transform spotted canines into coats. Kevin Lima (co-director of Disney's recent "Tarzan") will take the helm.

Redneck Rampage: Sony has purchased the theatrical rights to Interplay Entertainment’s amusing game “Redneck Rampage” for director Betty Thomas ("Private Parts") and Jenno Topping’s Tall Trees Prods. The game follows two Arkansas brothers’ extreme and comedic efforts to retrieve their prize-winning porker after it’s abducted by aliens. “It won’t be gory, grizzly or graphic,” Topping said. “We’re sensitive to the current climate, but we’re also interested in making it a commentary on violence and how destructive it can be.” Full Story >>>

Cecil B. Demented: Patty Hearst will join Melanie Griffith in John Waters' "Cecil B. Demented," an action-comedy that centers around a kidnapping. However, it's Griffith, not the iconic student-turned-bank robber, who will be taken hostage in the movie. Griffith plays a Hollywood movie star who is nabbed by a gang of film cultists, known as the Sprocket Holes, and forced to act in their Super 8 underground film. The leader of this star-snatching group is helmer Cecil B. Demented, played by Stephen Dorff ("Blade"). Alicia Witt ("Urban Legend") portrays Cherish, Cecil's porn-star girlfriend, according to THR.
