The Siege

Star Wars: Episode One: The official site reports that George Lucas has decided to name the new movie "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace." Some sources say George Lucas is just testing the response, and will probably change it. Others say it's the real title. I will probably add more news about this over the weekend, for now you can vote for it in the poll.

No Vacancy: Robert Wagner is set to a rough and tough pimp starring alongside Lolita Davidovich and Christina Ricci in "No Vacancy," an indie romantic comedy of sex, drugs and violin music set in a rundown Hollywood motel. Marius Balchunas is directing his own script. He has also pacted to reprise his role as Dr. Evil's henchman Number Two in the New Line sequel to "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery."

Small World: John Pasquin ("Santa Clause") is set to take the helm of the comedy "Small World." The Fox project follows the hi-jinks of the black sheep son of a successful businessman, as he accompanies his nearly blind father on a trip to Italy. The incompetent offspring loses their non-refundable tickets, but determined to make the best of it, he takes the father on a tour of New York City, pretending all the while that it is Europe.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer: The official trailer for this upcoming sequel to the 1997 hit movie "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is finally available. Thanks to the official site.

Mission: Impossible 2: Thandie Newton ("Gridlock'd") is close to a deal for the female lead in the "Mission: Impossible'' sequel. Newton will join Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames and Dougray Scott in the John Woo-directed Paramount action movie, which is slated to start shooting in Australia in mid-January.

Nathan Lane Project: Nathan Lane will star in a feature version of the critically acclaimed play "Mizlansky/Zilinsky or 'Schmucks." It concerns two washed-up producers who try to salvage their careers with one last screen deal. The film version will be written by Jon Robin Baitz and directed by Joe Mantello.

Shall We Dance?: Tom Hanks and director Jon Turteltaub ("Phenomenon") are looking to partner on an English-language remake of the Japanese box office hit "Shall We Dance?" The blithe romantic comedy follows a staid working man who takes a ballroom dancing class in an attempt to impress a beautiful young dance teacher. In the end, the dancing re-energizes the student and resuscitates his marriage.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

The Haunting of Hill House: Catherine Zeta-Jones ("The Mask of Zorro") is in advanced talks to star in "The Haunting of Hill House." Zeta-Jones would play Theo in director Jan De Bont's DreamWorks thriller about a team of researchers who investigate an old house to determine if a ghost resides there.

Any Given Sunday: Rap entrepreneur Sean "Puffy'' Combs has pulled out of directors Oliver Stone's pro footbal picture "Any Given Sunday'' because of scheduling conflicts. Full Story >>>

Superstition: Roger Donaldson ("Dante's Peak") has been signed to direct the supernatural thriller "Superstition." The film was adapted by David Ambrose from his own soon-to-be published novel. In "Superstition," a reporter investigating paranormal phenomena organizes a group to invent a ghost only to have the spirit actually materialize and begin to kill off the people who summoned it.

Hogan's Heroes: Mel Gibson is in talks to produce and star in a feature version of "Hogan's Heroes,'' the '60s sitcom about hi-jinks in a World War II prisoner of war camp. Gibson's Icon Prods., which the actor/director runs with Bruce Davey, is in talks with Paramount Pictures to develop and co-finance the project. The filmmakers are now looking for ascreenwriter. Icon and Paramount spokesmen declined comment.

The Bachelor: Renee Zellweger ("One True Thing," "Jerry Maguire") is close to joining Chris O'Donnell in "The Bachelor,'' New Line's remake of the Buster Keaton silent comedy "Seven Chances.'' The film will be directed by Gary Sinyor ("Leon the Pig Farmer''). Shooting begins in December.

Jumanji 2: 'Mango Man' reports that Rick Moranis and Karen Allen are supposedly in talks to star in the sequel to the 1995 hit "Jumanji." The story takes place in Paris, France where a couple find an ancient board game in an antique shop. They play the game with their two daughters. The film is rumored to be titled "The World of Jumanji" and may run along the lines of what the cartoon series is doing, bringing it's players to it's world. Thanks again to 'Mango Man.'

In Too Deep: LL Cool J is set to join Omar Epps in the thriller "In Too Deep." The Miramax project, which is based on a true story, stars Epps ("Scream 2") as an undercover cop who, while infiltrating a drug ring run by a widely feared dealer (LL Cool J), gets lost in that violent underworld. Michael Rymer is directing.

The Prince of Central Park: Harvey Keitel has joined the cast of "The Prince of Central Park.'' Keitel stars with Kathleen Turner, Danny Aiello, Jerry Orbach and Frankie in the family picture directed by TV veteran John Leekley. It is currently shooting in New York. Keitel plays the role of the guardian, a denizen of a "seemingly dark, yet enchanted area" of the famed Gotham park.

Prisoner of Love: Naomi Campbell has signed to join Eric Thal ("Six Degrees of Separation") in the thriller "Prisoner of Love," which is now shooting in Toronto. The indie picture is about an aspiring New York artist who witnesses a mob hit and is protected by the hit man who is supposed to kill her. Steve DiMarco ("Due South") directs from a script by Carl Haber.

The Cider House Rules: Kieran Culkin, Delroy Lindo and rapper Heavy D have joined the cast of "The Cider House Rules." Tobey Maguire ("Ice Storm") leads the film as Homer Wells, a young man who leaves the orphanage where he has grown up, falls hopelessly in love, and comes to realize that his future is inescapably connected with his past. Lasse Hallstrom helms.

End of Days: Robin Tunney ("Niagara, Niagara") is in negotiations to star opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the satanic thriller "End of Days." Set at the dawn of the new millennium, "Days" chronicles Satan's visit (in human form) to New York City in search of his bride, with whom he expects to rule the next thousand years. The only thing that stands in his way is the cop-turned-security expert played by Schwarzenegger. Tunney would play Christine Bethlehem, a daycare teacher who is Lucifer's unwitting chosen one and who helps Schwarzenegger in his battle to save mankind. Marcus Nispel will direct from Andrew Marlowe's screenplay.

Solaris: One of the acknowledged masterpieces of the sci-fi genre - Andrei Tarkovsky's 1972 Russian film "Solaris" - might soon be remade by James Cameron. Fox is negotiating on behalf of Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment to buy remake rights to the film, along with the rights to the Stanislav Lem novel on which it was based. While Cameron would produce the English-language remake of "Solaris," he is not expected to direct. "Solaris" is the story of astronaut Kris Kelvin, who travels to a space station orbiting Solaris - a world which itself orbits a binary star that has been the subject of intense scientific study - and soon discovers that the commander of an expedition studying Solaris has died under mysterious circumstances.

Home Fries Soldier

Movie Posters: Above is a poster for the Drew Barrymore/Luke Wilson starrer "Home Fries" and also a poster for the long-awaited sci-fi film "Soldier," which stars Kurt Russell.

Davidovich Projects: Lolita Davidovich has agreed to star in two indie films. "Four Days,'' in which she stars with Kevin Zegers, Colm Meaney and William Forsythe, is a bank heist told through the eyes of a teenager. In "Shegalla,'' Davidovich plays the estranged daughter of a 65-year-old cowgirl (Lynn Redgrave) battling her family and community.

Movie Trailers: A trailer for the Joel Schumacher directed, Nicolas Cage starring thriller "8MM" is finally available. Also a trailer for the NC-17 rated comedy "Orgazmo."

All the Pretty Horses: Henry Thomas ("E.T.") will star opposite Matt Damon in "All the Pretty Horses," a drama based on Cormac McCarthy's best-selling novel. Thomas will portray Lacey Rawlins, the pal of drifter John Grady Cole (Damon). "Horses" traces the adventures of two Texas horsemen as they cross the Rio Grande into 1949 Mexico.

Random Hearts: Dennis Haysbert ("Heat") is joining Harrison Ford and Kristin Scott Thomas in director Sydney Pollack's "Random Hearts.'' The Columbia Pictures drama centers on Ford and Scott Thomas' investigation of why their dead spouses were on a doomed plane. Ford's character, Dutch Van Den Broeck, is a sergeant in Internal Affairs, and Haysbert plays Big George Beaufort, a D.C. police officer who's not exactly predisposed to helping Dutch, since he perceives IA to be the enemy. Bonnie Hunt and Charles Dutton also co-star.

Harald Zwart

Disaster Area: Norwegian director Harald Zwart recently reported that his upcoming disasterfilm-parody has been delayed three or four months due to script problems. Two Emmy-nominated writers are currently fixing it up. They are also trying to cut down the budget and still haven't signed anyone for the lead role, though Zwart wanted Vince Vaughn ("The Lost World," "Psycho") for the part earlier. Thanks to VG.

End of Days: Rod Steiger ("Dr. Zhivago") is in talks to star opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in Beacon Communications' supernatural thriller "End of Days." The film, directed by music video veteran Marcus Nispel in his feature debut, concerns a visit by Satan to New York at the turn of the millennium. Andrew Marlowe ("Air Force One") will script.

Halloween Remake?: Pax reports that Dimension Films, John Carpenter and Debrah Hill have decied to remake the classic 1978 film "Halloween." Sounds very, very fishy to me, but you never know. Thanks again to 'Pax.'

What's Really Scary: A new horror film, titled "What's really scary" is supposedly now in script-stage. It is a collection of scary-stories. The film is set for a Oct. 2000 release, possibly with Clive Barker directing. Thanks to 'Pisces.'

Urban Legend: 'Bruno' has seen a test screening of this horror movie which shortly opens in the US, and has sent in a spoiler filled review for those who are interested:

The Haunting of Hill House: Liam Neeson ("Star Wars: Episode One") and Lili Taylor are in talks to star in DreamWorks spine-chiller "The Haunting of Hill House." The production, to be directed by Jan De Bont in Los Angeles and on the East Coast, will go before cameras before year's end. Based on a story by Shirley Jackson, the tale involves a haunted New England mansion and a group of people struggling to escape its terrors.
