October 1st 1998 - Movie News/Rumours

American History X Clay Pigeons Meet Joe Black The Mighty

Movie Posters: A variety of posters today. First one for the upcoming drama "American History X" starring Edward Norton and Edward Furlong. A poster for the Vince Vaughn starrer "Clay Pigeons," the official "Meet Joe Black" poster and finally the official poster for "The Mighty." Thanks partly to 'Michael.'

Jello Shots: Brad Rowe ("Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss") is set to star in the New Line drama "Jello Shots.'' Rowe plays Shawn, a Los Angeles legal intern. He and a group of friends embark on a wild, drunken night on the town, which results in one of them, a professional football player, being accused of a serious crime. Screenwriter Michael Cristofer ("Witches of Eastwick") will direct and David McKenna ("American History X") scripted.

Superman Lives?: Apparently a rewrite of the 'Superman' script came in to WB brass and producer Jon Peters, which has gotten Cage excited again. More important, studio brass is excited because the script can be made for under $100 million, with a greater emphasis on characters. Dan Gilroy ("Outbreak") wrote the new screenplay. No word if Burton will come back yet. Thanks to 'Guskupacheck' for the heads up.

The Limey: Variety reports that Nicky Katt ("One True Thing") will play a sociopathic hitman in director Steven Soderbergh's indie thriller "The Limey." The Artisan Entertainment project, about an Englishman (Terence Stamp) who comes to L.A. to avenge a murder, starts shooting Thursday.

Gremlins 3: I got an anonymous scoop reporting that a third "Gremlins" film is in the works, so I'd take it with a grain of salt:

Charles Haas and Chris Colombus are both rumored to be writing a script for a sequel to the 1990 picture, "Gremlins 2". The film will be directed by none other than Joe Dante, director of the original films. Chris Colombus wrote the script to "Gremlins" and Charles Haas wrote it for "Gremlins 2." They both decided to team up to create something new and different for the series. Although Gremlins 2 failed to make an impression at the box-office, Joe Dante is reportedly excited about the project. The film will be released hopefully around Christmas, 2000. Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment will produce the picture and Jerry Goldsmith will score it. No word on if Zach Galligan (Nilly Peltzer) and Phoebe Cates (Kate Peltzer) will return, although it's very likely since their careers haven't been going so well lately. Howie Mandel will provide the voice once again for Gizmo, the lovable mogwi.

I Still Know: This chances of this scoop actually being true are slim, though just in case it is, I'll post it. It is MAJOR spoiler info about the killer/ending of the film, so just sweep over the area below IF you want to read it. Thanks to 'Shawnae.'

I know for a fact, that Julia Louis Dreyfuss (From TV's Seinfeld) will be in I Still Know. She will play a female second killer (that's the big twist everyones talking about). Her motives for being a killer are unknown at the moment. Her name is not on the cast list and she is not in any trailers, as the writer wants to keep it a big secret.

Lucky Town: Martin Sheen has signed to play a legendary poker player called "The Red'' in the indie drama "Lucky Town.'' The film is about two teenagers who get married too quickly and run away to Las Vegas only to become entangled in a web of killers and prostitutes. Charlotte Dodds, Kai Lennox, Phil Matuarano, John Ratzenberger and Bill Kirchenbauer also star. Brendan Beseth will make his directing debut from his own script.

Diplomatic Siege: Tom Berenger ("Platoon") has joined the cast of "Diplomatic Siege," a suspense thriller headed by Peter Weller and Daryl Hannah. The indie project is about a career diplomat (Weller) and a consular expert (Hannah), who attempt to thwart Serbian terrorists who take 37 people hostage in an American embassy. Chilean director Gustavo Graef Marino is making his English-language debut on the film.

Chill Factor: Peter Firth, David Paymer and Hudson Leick have joined the cast of the action feature "Chill Factor." In addition, novelist Caleb Carr ("The Alienist,") has been hired for a production rewrite of the script. "Chill Factor" follows the mission of two men (Skeet Ulrich and Cuba Gooding Jr.) transporting an extremely poisonous substance that will cause widespread contamination if it's allowed to warm higher than 50 degrees. Hugh Johnson directs the Morgan Creek/Warner Bros. project.

The 13th Warrior

The 13th Warrior: Above is a great copy of a "13th Warrior" poster. Looks like an advance poster to me. Thanks to both 'Debel' and Ed Fox for this wonderful copy of the poster.

Guy Gets Kid: Cole Sprouse, Jon Stewart, Leslie Mann, Josh Mostel and Rob Schneider have joined the cast of Columbia Pictures' comedy "Guy Gets Kid." The project stars Adam Sandler as an irresponsible law school graduate named Sonny who is about to lose his girlfriend (Joey Lauren Adams) because he is avoiding his adult responsibilities. Six-year-old Sprouse will play Julian, the kid that Sonny adopts in order to impress his girl.

Ghostbusters III: Garth Franklin's Dark Horizons reports that pre-production on "Ghostbuster III" is supposedly in full swing and shooting will begin very shortly. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis have written the script, and writer Todd Phillips ("Frat House") has been asked to do a quick 'beef up and polish.'

Movie Trailer: The official "Holy Man" site has released a better copy of the trailer. Also, The Disney Ultra Sites have gotten their hand on an exclusive clip from Disney's upcoming "Tarzan" project, click on the link to download it from their site.

Eyes Wide Shut: Craig has gathered together a short synopsis of info regarding this upcoming Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman movie for those who are interested:

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's characters play married psychologist. They both have affairs with their clients and soon head to the streets of New York to explore the sexual underbelly. The crew for this film is very small, but the film has a budget of over $65 million. The film took 19 months to shoot. It is also reported that the film's director, Stanley Kubricks, took as much as 60 takes for many of the scenes. The new official release date is set for July 16th, 1999. Though the film is a summer release don't expect a big blockbuster, but rather a tacky art film.

Gun Shy: Liam Neeson is set to star with Sandra Bullock in the black comedy "Gun Shy." Neeson will play a world weary DEA agent who is looking forward to retirement, but must get through one final difficult case before he can. Oliver Platt is in talks to play the third lead. Eric Blakeney will direct the Disney project from his own script. Bullock will produce along with her sister.

Editors Note: Sorry about the short update, hopefully more fresh news will appear tomorrow. I will hopefully recieve a copy of the official "Meet Joe Black" poster within a few days, and perhaps a few other new posters also..
